Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

It's a style thing. Take Kurt Cobain and some of his lyrics (which were mostly fluff, according to him) and Eddie Vedder and his cotton mouthed voice. If you were around when those bands and when "grunge" took over you saw how many bands immediately came out sounding like that. There were BLATANT rip off's: Silverchair, Stone Temple Pilots...and some that tried to be a distant cousin but were just as bad, bands like Bush (which my bass player played with a few times, and she told me about how they were created, like a Back Street Boys or Sex Pistols, ala "Making da' Band".) Nowadays you have bands playing thier version of that music: Creed, Nickelback, bands like that. If you are a fan of top 40 radio then you know what I am talking about. Jane's Addiction were just a little different. They were very good musicians (not that it matters to me, but it's nice to see) and had an unusual sound. Also, they had an edge of punk to thier sound, like older Red Hot did. And the metal being top 40 thing: basically I am talking about the volume of popular music going up. Heavy bands are now normal. If you click around on your radio, you will find "normal top 40" stations playing Green Day and Metallica. It's not like I'm losing sleep over this, but music just seems to be trying to hard nowadays. Maybe it was the element of punk back then, (no, not Green Day) kids growing up on Minor Threat and Social D. Take even a band like The Pretenders: a top 40 band, sort of, but when it gets down to it, a band that just OOZED cool. A band like that would NEVER make it nowadays. Or even a band like the Pixies. Bands that have a sound LIKe theirs would, but not an original band with original ideas. Then you have the Hot Topic (I like the store, by the way) kind of crappy metal: Slipknot, Disturbed. Bands like that worry too much about image and a produced metal sound when they should just be playing something fun and scary. Emo is such garbage, with the combover haircuts and the same nasaly, high pitched vocals, and it sells millions of copies. Anyway, blah blah. I don't sound like a bitter old man do I? lol

No Beau, in fact, I am a young man, and I feel the same. Also, I am noticing that kids around my age are also more violent which is unfortunate for them, since not everyone prefers to fight. Some prefer to stab, and others shoot. Now the kids who play mmorpgs are all gravy. Try going out to a bar around chicago with a pretty looking lady and your asking for trouble, even if she is your wife. It's pathetic. I don't know what is happening, but I think I am watching the fall of America...I have never been in another country with kids like this. And when I say kids, I mean 18-25. That age rage is rediculously over the edge. There is no respect anymore out there on the streets. Maybe this is the affects of the seperation of the middle class from the rich class...I don't know. All I know is that chicago isn't safe, and batman isn't real. So wtf is going to happen? Only God knows. And it's not race...because all kids ofa ll colors act this way. It has to be the media...it has to be. |

Personally I like to blatantly blame the reality shows and the attention seekers on youtube. I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention. |
