A Colleague of mine at work here in Oslo actually has stock in Funcom. He sold all of them shortly after release and now bought back stock now they are low in hope it will go back up on the long run *ehmm*

I had high hopes for AOC but the game stinks ..... just not enough depth for a MMORPG.

If I was an investor I would have sold long ago. Unless Funcom produce a "MIRACLE" the stock will only get lower and lower. Good luck for all those that hold shares, it looked promising for a while.

Well, seeing that Funcom is not an MMO company - it is a company that has two MMOs in addition to their other products - I wouldn't worry much about the company itself. What usually kills an MMO company is "having all their eggs in one basket" and assuming too much debt.

I am not surprised that their stock is falling. Most investors aren't the ones who are playing the game. A lot of the investors were probably tipped off that Funcom was releasing the next "World of Warcraft" type of game. A game that sold so many copies that Blizzard was forced to halt additional copies through the distribution channels for 2 weeks after Christmas. That in addition to it's residual monthly income, it's no wonder why investors would take a lot of interest in the next WoW like product.

But - In reality ... anyone who plays MMOs would know that AoC would not be the next WoW no matter how good it was. Between hardware issues, poor performance during beta and lack of high end content - we knew that it would be a niche game.

Also, investors knew that the majority of immediate profits would be made during the first two weeks. So, after two weeks, a lot of investors already had plans to take their money and split. What happens when too many people do this? The stock begins to decrease. What do short term investors do when stock begins to decrease? They sell their stock. What happens? The stock tanks. It's a vicious, but very predictable cycle.

At the moment, the time to buy Funcom stock is now. Funcom's stock will more than likely rebound. Also, when AoC is released on Console - I can guarantee that the cycle will begin all over again. But, if you bought the stock during a lull, then your going to make a 50% or more profit.

Remember - stocks have very little to do with the quality of the game. Most people do not know what an MMO even is. So, quality isn't a driving factor here.
