I never liked the Combat Upgrade, primarly because of the levels introduced in the game, but there were some things improved like being able to other armor other than composite.

I remember one of the Devs posting on the forums like six months before the CU came about the changes that would take place - and I remember that they were COMPLETELY different than what the CU was.

I was a HUGE supporter of these changes. They seemed to fix a lot of things in the game I thought was broken in the pre-CU system. Anyways, I would like to see those documents again, and if all possible, see the progress of changes they made to their words before CU "hit the fan".

Kudos in advance to the person who helps me. (or at least tells me that it's impossible to retrieve this information now)

I could give you a link to the documents, but I've noticed that those get edited by moderators.  I'm concluding that the link is taboo then here for some reason.  Some of the correspondents that participated in the work done on the CURB actually post on these forums, so you might hear something from one of them :)

I used to have all of the documentation they gave us when we were down in Austin for the Correspondent's Summit, but I think in my post-NGE rage, I purged my files. I'll have to look and see if I have any of them.

I still have the t-shirt they gave us - my cat wipes his paws on it after he takes a dump.

Oh, somebody already gave me all the documentation of the original design of the combat upgrade...

There were some major things to be pointed out, that SHOULD have been in the game. This includes:

*Needing to reduce all three attributes to zero (health, mind, and action) in order to incap

*A more difficult death blow to maneuver, since you must be in melee range to perform it - and it can be stopped mid-way into it

That's all I can think of for now. I miss ole' SWG... :(

I wonder if it's ok to just post them here?  I think the links were taboo because they went to a site connected with something that starts with E.

I believe that doing so would cause such a ripple in the force that Darth Lucas and his apprentice Darth Smedley would see this thread to vanish faster than SWG's player base after the NGE.

I initially didn't like the CU, it had many bugs and Jedi were so messed up, the CU was released the first week of May (ROTW was opened a week previously to pre-order customers), and it took the devs til July or August to get everything working well and by Oct with publish 24, the CU was in its best shape and IMO better than what pre-CU was in bugs and playability and pvp was VERY fun. Just when the CU hit its peak, the NGE got put onto TestCenter and pushed live a week later.

What bugs me is Smedley saying "the CU is here to stay" and just as the CU reached its best potential, instead of SOE keeping that and giving it a chance to rebuild the lost subscribers, they throw on the NGE which pushed them back to square 1 and lost even more subscribers than they lost in the CU.

SWTOR: sub ended, no thanks to Georg Zoeller!

It was indeed a very similar pattern of events with the CU and the NGE.  Expansion launched just before to pre-order customers.  Both in a buggy mess when they went live.  Both generally unwanted by the current players.  Both copying aspects of WoW, and Battlefront in the case of the NGE.  Both ignoring many important issues that needed to be addressed, and both targetting someone else's playerbase.

What made the NGE worse though was that it was more buggy than the CU, it caused the current players many more losses, and unlike the CU there was no prior warning of its impending release at the previous two dev chats.  In fact, instead of saying "there's another game revamp coming" soon to be deleted professions were promised revamps or features in the new expansion.  This obvious misdirection is what fueled much of the outrage, letters to the attorney general etc., and culminated in the expansion refund as well as the mass exodus from the game.

The statement, "the CU is here to stay" was made in the context of requests for rollbacks to the pre-cu version of the game.  However, taken alongside the dev chat promises for profession revamps and an expansion designed for the CU system, it clearly contributed to players' sense of being intentionally misled.

If Smedley was being honest and accurate, he would have said "the CU is here to stay, until we come up with another knee-jerk complete game revamp that we think will help us take customers from WoW."  If he was an ethical man, he would have said no to the SOE devs that pitched the NGE.  Something like, "hey I just told the players that the CU is here to stay, I'm not changing the whole game out from under them again."  Yes, I think that would have been the appropriate response.
