Last friday (the 17th) Electronic Arts anounced The Sims2 had shiped. The Sims game and it's expansion pack has sold over 36,000,000 worldwide! Guess Sims2 & Lineage2 #s put most all other rpg to shame.
On the 22 EA will shut down Earth and Beyond.

That's over 1 billion dollars right there..

just run away please..

Why is Lineage 2 in there?
The Sims 2 is not an RPG..

But anyways, my wife bought Sims2 and absolutely loves it.  I even caught myself a few times standing over her shoulder and watching her play.

I don't know how many guys like it but I can easily see why women or girls love it.  Its a virtual dollhouse where you can make your Sims have sex with each other lol

Heh, last night my wife had one of her Sims sleep with 3 men and a follow girl.  Sims have def. changed since the first game.

The funny thing also about Sims2 is go to their forums and have of them are riddled with "my graphics driver wont work!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I had no idea whatsoever how many people have severly outdated hardware.

Actually the Sims is a simulation hence the name, but I also consider it a real RPG, meaning unlike other RPGs you actually play a role

But I don't see it being a strategy

You play a 'Role' in all games you play. The thing is you can't take the term so literally as it has come to stand for a certain type of game which most of us know as true 'RPG's'.

The most amusing example of mislabeling a game has to be to call Deus Ex a RPG when it couldn't be more of a FPS. Just because you ad a few elements that allow you get a handful of skills doesn't automatically change the fact that it's still a FPS at heart.

To me playing a role is creating a character, and after that it is up to me to decide everything, a game where my actions change my character and the world around me, Fable comes close

For example I think Final Fantasy is not an RPG it is a TBTG ( turn based tactics game ), yeah that seems picky but thats the way I see it
