Wasn't Origin NEW to the concept of MMO's when they released UO.. and look how far it went before EA took over.
Just my two cents. |

To add 2 cents, wasn't Ultima already a well established IP and, having not played Ultima Online, was the gameplay so different from the previous versions, or did they just move the IP into an MMO setting? Otherwise, yes, every company that is making money off of games today started with a "first game". -mklinic "There's a point I think we're missing. |

Origin might have been new to the concept of MMO's but at the time UO team was formed it was one of the premium game development companies. They weren't starting things from scratch - they had already some parts of the engine coming from old Ultimas, some artwork as well and *very* experienced and talented in house crew. Grabbing experienced people who had been already involved in MUD's for a good while wasn't problem to them back on those days. Raph Koster for example was considered a MUD veteran with several projects he had participated, even if mostly volunteer ones. So IMHO you can't even remotely compare the Darkfall team with the UO team at Origin in the time they started. Playing: Vanguard |
