Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG. |

I watched the Stargate Combat video, and I like the progress with the A.I. I don't want a MMOFPS, that is more first person shooter like MMO's. If I want to play a First Person Shooter, there are plenty of good ones that exist already, and lots more in development.
AoC sort of went for that feel with the push up down left to attack / block combat. I wasn't interested in that, because it just seems like console button mashing to me. I like the direction the Stargate combat is taking, with more reaction from MObs. They don't just stand there, they try to flank you, take over your cover, rush you, etc. It's an improvement. I'm not sure about the "cover" thing, and I don't know how you could translate this to melee combat, but at least the Mobs don't stand there like moles waiting to be whacked. |

Unless there is some form of percision targetting, allowing players to choose where to shoot, that cover system is lame. The whole fight took forever in the video, that kind of fighting is far too long for my taste with just dice roll shooting. I like the cover, I really like being able to completely redesign the UI to my liking without having to download mods from 3rd parties, but do think the pace of combat could pick up. I suspect they were going for "functional" first and then plan to polish it up through beta, since that is what beta software is for. |

Like I said in the video combat thread. The cover system is nothing impressive. Its simply run to a structure/object and you're in cover. There is no fluent movement or anything, was just too clumsy. It looked silly when when he ran around, I kept expecting the lower half of his body to run off on its own. I know this ALPHA stage, but jesus christ. The combat system wasn't intense enough for me, didn't pull you in. Character itself looked to bulky cartoonish. |

Combat is just your typical RPG combat, dice rolls and auto-aim, no targetting, no fire button mashing, it's just an RPG. |

Why do people insist on all mmos becoming FPS?
Typical rpg combat? Yeah, that's pretty much what defines rpg combat, anything else is not rpg combat. Dice rolls, hit tables, damage tables, that's what rpgs are all about. Do people even know what an rpg is anymore? |

I'm not complaining, I'm glad its a real RPG, it's everyone else who seems to think it's some twitch fps hybrid. |

I like it so far. I was worried that it would closer to true twitch than anything. The fact you got cover, focus, and what seemed like a group/cluster based AI, it will make grouping even in random overland maps more fun. |

Public forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. |

I kinda like the system, though the fight was a little too long. You're not alone in that.. but it was also the guy more than the fight itself. He kept running away and hiding without really fighting per-say. So it wasn't the game so much but the player who was sucking in the video haha. (No offense the guy playing. You were demoing. Not playing.) I'm sure battles will be a little less. The UI scares me more than anything. I don't like it. Plain and simple.
I do hope however that animations and posing get better. In the final stretch where the character stood there and fired looked completely blocky.. He just stat there with a slight bounce from the weapon firing. In the series/movies they get down and fire to prevent the kick-back from knocking them over, they move more fluidly.. in the footage they don't. But again- Alpha stage.

It's nothing like TR, aiming is handled by clicking on a target with the cursor or by tabbing to the target you want. No mouse aim/look feature. Combat is auto-attack with special skills, proper dice roll affair. |

Hi, just wanted to direct you to a new video posted on this site about SGWs UI. It's going to be fully customizable from within the game; you can create new toolbars, assign buttons, move them anywhere on the screen, adjust their alpha blending, and even save these profiles to load and change from within the game without having to log out and back in again. The profiles are saved on your hard drive so you can upload them to to websites and share with friends, and no 3rd party modifications are needed. Take a look, I think it's going to be pretty sweet! http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/242/view/videos/play/1250 |

I like it so far but i would reserve judgment when i see the final product. I like the non-twitch system so I don't have to actully aim with the mouse. I think breaking away from the tank, healer, dps paradiagm is good. The question is whether they can make it deep and involved. |

Haven't tried it yet, but it looks fine to me. |

i was hoping the combat was going to be something like mass effect but I'll still try it. |

Well I like that it is mostly ranged combat, and its a bit more realistic in the sense that you get the majority of your defensive stats from cover. But I do agree with the dude about the UI I dont like that you have to sorta make your own I would much rather have the team at CME make some pretty good generic UI that you can just use from the get go. |

From what I've seen so far, I like the direction. Fully customizable UI, with the abilty to save out a profile to share with others -- great! Interesting, strategic AI from the mobs -- great! I don't think the combat videos were intended to demonstrate the pace of combat, because he was narrating the various elements as he went. Edit out the talking and demonstration, and you'll get faster paced combat, naturally. As for cover in melee, that's irrelevant. Cover is a ranged combat concept. Finally, as someone currently in Tabula Rasa and enjoying the "MMOFPS" combat, I too want faster combat and don't mind the RPG-style combat that is being discussed in this thread. _______________________ Current Game: nothing |

Funny, you say you dont want a FPS game, yet basic element of every FPS is that your opponenet is always on a move. And judging by your last words, sounds like you are in denial, when it comes to FPS. |

Originally posted by daeandor Because people are getting tired from falling asleep during combat. And FPS is all about adrenalin rush and action, not to mention FPS provides a player with more involvment with your character and a game. Lets look at a typical MMORPG. All the dice-rolls, hit-damage tables etc, already all predetermined and calculated for you. All you do, is push a button or two at a predetermined time and as thousends of bots have already proven, you dont even need to sit by your computer at all to play MMO's If you look closely you might start thinking that this kind of MMO's combat style were designed for handicaps. And if you are thinking at this point, that MMORPG's are not about combat, then what could it be? It can't be a RPG element either, because compare to single-player RPG's ( Neverwinter Night f.eks), MMO's provide so little of this genre, that they dont deserve having thouse 3 pressures letters in there name. |
