So I was at my local Best Buy, and it's pretty big one. I was looking at pc games and they had like an entire aisle of Aoc copies and time cards.Guess they arn't selling what they wanted to, I remember when WoW bc came out and they had more copies then what I saw of Aoc and they sold out. |

Actually its a fact that AoC sold more copies at release than WoW. Also AoC just came out the top ten NPD sales charts last week after more than 2 months there. Right now sales are still good, so say NPD, Buddy keys have just been released, so I would expect a drop in sales further and even more so when the non collectors edition keys release.

Really? More at release than WoW? That surprises me, the WoW servers were crashing constantly on release because they had far more than expected trying to log in the first couple weeks than all the servers could handle. You sure on that? The had to add servers fast as they could manage. |

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone. |

So lets look at your facts Avery shall we. WOW had a staggerd release across the world, so unlike AOC not every county got it at the same time.
On Tuesday, 18 January, the game was released commercially in Korea, and by the following day had already reached a total peak concurrency of more than 100,000 players. North America on Tuesday, November 23 World of Warcraft sold through over 240,000 copies to customers during its first 24 hours of availability. The game has since sold over 600,000 copies in the region. So thats only north america and Korea in the first 24 hours of release in each area , excluding the rest of the planet. then came europe release! throngs of fans lined up in stores throughout Europe to purchase an estimated 280,000 copies of the game, with over 380,000 copies sold in its first weekend.
still leaving yet more countries through out the world to get there initial release.

Actually Avery I must disagree with this. This past weekend I was at a friend's house. Present were 4 friends who are major gamers (even moreso than I - all dating back to EQ) and looked forward to Age of Conan. They all waited for buddy keys to be active so they could try the game. I for one, wouldn't bother to reinstall the game unless they did some HUGE sweeping changes with their game to increase replayability and stability issues. This will never happen though. Look at their history of coding and management. They suck at both. And as someone said above, the install itself is enough of a chore for me not to give the game a second chance. They stuck me for the game and for 2 months. They wouldn't have got anything from me if I had done my homework on Funcom's past and habits first. /shakes fist at Conan and his lazy eyes and green hair CrazyRay |

Yeah I made a post about this a while back. But maybe 2 weeks ago my local Best Buy had over 20 AOC boxes. I guess based on that observation you could arrive at different conclusions. I happen to think it's because the game is not doing so well. |

Let's not fool ourselves. AoC had a dominant launch, but the game at launch was much better than it is now. It was more true to the REH vision, though still far off. Classes were better balanced. The forum was not run by volunteers who ban you for anything they think is bad. We were anticipating buddy keys with the expectation that the FREE trial would be FREE. "The keys are in your hands. And thats somthing blizzard choose to do so there for AoC out sold them on launch. And WarCraft is a way bigger name the Conan. So for the type of game thats the whole point AoC was highest selling. And Warcraft demographic was EveryOne and your computer didnt matter because the game look so crappy any computer could play it. So dont hate on Age of Conan it did its thing and WoW is still doing its thing. Let AoC have its glory because to be honest thats prolly the only glory it will garnish. It certainly isn't going to make it to the 10million sub mark. |

I have visited 3 local Best Buys shortly after AoC was released. I wasn't really looking for anything, but just happened to be in the area and as usual stopped by to check out what new things they have. All of them had plenty of AoC copies. In fact, I was able to get Collector's edition the day of release w/o pre-ordering it. Now, when WoW came out it released in US before Europe, and I had some European friends who wanted to start playing right away. So, was searching every single store around 50 mile radius just for a regular box for my friends. BestBuy, Target, WalMart, EB Games, and various small game shops - all of them have been sold out. I also remember the very day when WoW released I came into BestBuy maybe 10 minutes after opening and clerks laughed at me when I said I wanted Collector edition...and AoC had them all over BB's shelfs for days. |
