Playing LOTRO I've come across many female players and I know they are female because we chatted while in a group. I think that the ratio of female to male player on LOTRO may be a little higher than other games due to the popularity if the IP with women. (No. I don't have any numbers on that. It's simply an observation I've made.) I really enjoy it when I get into a fellowship (group) that has female players. These girls really rock! They have a different approach to gaming that I think male players do. Men are all about the strategy but women are more interested in the social end and they can wup some butt when combat starts. As for looking for love on an online game, it may happen I wouldn't get your hopes up. I think the odds are seriously against any guy hoping to find romance in am MMO. Try the lottery. I think your odds would be better. I really don't look for that since there aren't that many women in my age group (i'm in my late 40's) that play MMO's. And to be honest I'm more interested in killing orcs and living the Middle-earth experience. If I wanted to find romance online there is always Match.com or eHarmony for that! But if I should happen to find a single, 40-somthing, Tolkien loving, gaming girl then who am I to argue with good fortune! |

Jeez, this again? Fact: There are a lot of men who game. Fact: There are a lot of men who play women while gaming. Fact: There are women who game. Fact: There are women who play men while gaming. Fact: None of this really has any relevence on the game itself. My opinion: Stop worrying about whether or not the person(s) you are grouping with are female or male in real life. It doesn't matter one lick. If you are worried about the issue then I think you're more interested in using a game as a pick-up joint than actually playing and I definitely don't want to play with you. A bit of advice: Stop sharing personal information with strangers. It's a dangerous practice. |

Besides that, guilds I have been in we did applications via headset and web cam, and had more requirements for guild members than just their ingame stats and abilities, we also made our decsion on whether or not to let them join based mainly on their personality and whether or not we think that their personality fit with our guild. This is becomming a more common practice these days so that guilds can weed out troublemakers before they ever get in the door. The world is a dangerous place, you could be in more harm from someone living next door to you than someone you meet online. Honestly I do not think it is any more dangerous to talk to people online than it is to go to the grocery store these days. In fact , it is actually more dangerous for you to go to the grocery store than to talk to people online. LOL |

Originally posted by deviliscious I am one of "those guys" that play female characters. As it has been said before the whole argument over who is male or female is moot. Are people feeling more vulnerable with the thought of males playing female avatars? If so you really need to get out more often. Also, I know women play video games, is that going to change how I play? No, it is not. I don't feel I conduct myself inappropriately around others so it shouldn't matter. It's a Jeep thing. . .

Isn't that assuming that all girl gamers are cool, and none of them give female players a bad rap? I agree with some of the other posters that don't find your gender relevant. Either you are a team player, or you get my party wiped, and if you can hold an intelligent convesation, that's a bonus. I don't care if you are a girl, a guy, or Jabba the Hut in real life. |

When it concerns who I am "hanging out with" in a game whether it be male or female I do care if they are a creep or not. I like the idea of web cams, and headsets when considering guild applicants because it gives you a better idea of the person you are dealing with. It helps weed out alot of the unstable players that would result in getting your group wiped as well, and makes for overall better gameplay in the group. When you have a group that plays together on and off the game you have a better functioning group within the game. Forced grouping does not help that, it hinders it. People should be able to find each other in games with common interests by having a variety of options of things to do in the games not forcing them to group with people they have nothing in common with just to get anything done. |

Sorry devilicious, but in my years of online gaming, I've found it's not the 'lil boys in dresses' giving female gamers a bad rep, but rather the females who just can't resist pointing out their gender to everyone and their brother. In general, and of course there are exceptions, any female gamer who has to make it so widely known that she is a 'real girl' is trying entirely too hard to get herself some attention. THAT is what gives girl gamers a bad rep. You may like using headsets and web cams for whatever reason, but you'll never convince me they're used for the purpose of finding out someone's personality. Headsets, fine...web cams? ROFL...gimme a break... |

Which I do think that proper hygiene does tell alot about a persons personality. So you think that a 350lb person who has not left their home in 5 years would have the same personality as a person who works everyday, excercises and goes clubbing on the weekneds? I think not. |

I play female characters for one and one reason only. I'd rather look at a female toon for 50+levels then a damn dude toon for 50+ levels. I dont put my self into the game where i actually think im in the game doing these thing so i have no need to be a guy toon. |
