I was one of the many following STO's development for a number of years, being active on a few fan forums, getting really into it.. then Perpetual threw out the first ingame screenshot, and I cried. I will be honest and say that I've never played any of Cryptic's MMOs yet, but based on fan and game reviews, it seems like a really good company focused on fun gameplay. I have to say, the ingame screenshots they have posted on the new sto website look really great and polished already, and at least in my opinion, infinitely better than any of the ones Perpetual gave us. It looks like they're heading in the right direction... but I would like to know what peoples opinions are. Do you think Cryptic will deliver a quality MMO to both MMO and Star Trek fans, or focus more on "fun" gameplay instead of immersing the player in the science and lore of ST? Do you have faith in Cryptic? Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV |

It's an amazingly complex and deep IP. And the fans will never be happy because their expectations will be in the clouds. I don't envy Cryptic's task. |

I think Cryptic will deliver a fun game with a Star Trek feel. I don't think it will immerse anyone in the tech and lore of Star Trek but I do think they will deliver a fun game. I do not think it will immerse you for years of play, especially seeing them developing for consoles as well. |

In fact with as advanced as consoles have become (Huge hard drives, ability to connect to the Internet, mouse and keyboard attachments) the console is almost as viable as the PC (notice I said almost). Cryptic will be able to release expansioin for the pc as well as the consoles and I am betting you won't be able to tell a difference between the two if those console users are using a mouse/keyboard combo.

I have faith they'll deliver a fun MMO. I don't think it will be the type of MMO I'd like them to develope, but none-the-less I'm sure I'll play at launch and probably until the servers shut down because I'm a Star Trek geek. Of course I said I'd play SWG until the servers shut down too...that didn't happen. Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity. |

This is my biggest sci-fi following. More so then Star Wars. So if they don't make a complete pile of trash, I will be getting this. |

Only Cryptic game Ive ever played was CoX, and it sucked bad IMO. I just hope they come up with a better quest system than that. I do believe they will do a good job though. (Mainly because its my only hope for a good Sci-fi MMO so I have no choice but to believe) Just dont suck is all I ask |

This is not perpetual, this *certainly* isn't bioware, mythic, blizzard... { Mod Edit } |

You obviously misunderstood a simple post. Where did I cast doubt or give a review of the future? I was just asking what people think of Cryptic. { Mod Edit }

i hope cryptic can deliver, but it seems like the success rate for MMORPGS is fairly low. i wish cryptic luck. even devs and studios with established records can turn out the occassional bad game. |

I'm not expecting a lot, to be honest. Going to show us a demo of gameplay on Aug 10, just a few months after getting the IP? City of Heroes didn't have a lot of depth to it, and if it's already at the stage where they can show us actual gameplay... I have a nasty feeling that they're under the gun to have this thing released in time for the coming movie. And we know how well that always works out (points at the SWG Veterans forum). |

I think what Hadrian means by successful is, good MMORPGS in his opinion. If thats true, I agree with him there aren't many GOOD mmorpgs. But, good is subjective of course. Just for example, I LOVE lotro, and absolutely HATE CoX and there are too many CoXs out there and VERY few lotro. Having this in mind for myself and all my friends who play MMOs the success rate is very low and the chances aren't great. But as Hadrian says, I wish them luck.
PS It is an entirely DIFFERENT dev team for STO and CoX right? Because personally I dont want anyone who so much as got coffee for the the CoX team anywhere near STO. /sarcasm |

Was Cryptic already working on a sci-fi game and just switched it? Then again we have all heard rumors of Cryptic getting STO since Perpetual was publicly having trouble. Ill bet they have been working on it alot longer than we might think. Still I share your trepidation. |

What do you guys mean there are no good mmo's? WoW,EQ2,EVE,Lotro,DDO, Cov/coh, DAoC, Hell even games that started out bad are looking good now, Vanguard and TR are doing ok. Imo champions online,star trek online will be fun games with dedicated fans i say 100-500k subs and thats enough to make money and keep content rolling. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

by "success" i meant met players' and the market's expectations. in my opinion, games such as vanguard, dark & light, horizons/istaria, PotBS, AoC and TR failed to meet their potential. and i was referring to MMORPGs in general, not to cryptic specifically. (although, i quit CoH after only three weeks.) |
