lol yeah I didn't venture out much the first time I tried back in 06, found a mall to camp at with a pretty good rate but it was pretty damn boring. Then I came back just this year an holy crap there are normal people out there that aren't weird or bots. I hated it because whenever I got into an area with more than 10 people it seemed like the game lagged beyond expectation. Second Life is just not for me to begin with.

Get yourself a copy of a 3d animation suite and save yourself a fortune.... plus then you dont have to interact with paedophiles (Im not referring to every SL user, just the ones that made the news!). -- |

HMm all these posts about sl rly got me wondering what does one do in sl? I dont not mean to bash this game, rly dont give half a flying f****, I never played it and probably never will. But since this game isnt about killing stuff what does one do when they log on for 2 to kill some time? I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long. |

Second Life is like the internet I think. Full of porn and evilness! Of course that's just an assumption one can make after one minute of browsing. If a person actually searches for worthwhile things in the game then you will find it. There is so much more in the game, from christian churches to buhddist temples, stock car racing, and many role playing sims. I play in Deadwood, a wild west roleplaying place based on the show that was on HBO. As of now, there is no other western themed roleplaying game around, other then maybe Wild West Online, which is just for duels. In Deadwood I play a chinaman character. I've made dynamite, gunpowder and lantern that makes fire when broken on the ground. I even made cockfighting Roosters. In Deadwood we take roleplay serious though, cant just come in and shoot up the place, ya need to be in character, threaten folks, talk things up, and act the part. There's other roleplay places too, more focused on combat, some not. There's a whole lot of roleplaying themed places and groups around in SL. Star Wars, Star Trek, vampires, modern crime life, and more. But really anything is possible in the game. Those that dismiss Second Life as just a capitalist sex game are not even searching for what they want. It does have a whole lotta sex, if you want that, but it all depends on where you want to go and what you want to do. There is a ton of freebie items to get. High quality clothes, weapons, vehicles, avatars can be free. You just need to know where to look, like at slexchange.com or in-world at freebie places. Anyone can make anything, and everyone pretty much has. Just remember theres a little Search button to use, you don't need to fly everywhere. It's more of a virtual world then just a single game. It has many games within the game, so I do think it a bit presumptious to judge it as a whole like that. Though I would agree with others, it does have a heck of a lot of lag cause of all the things it has to load. I'm just used to it, since I've been there for so long. If you have a good system it should run decent. SL is more for people who like to socialize, like a big huge chat room, also for those that want real roleplaying places where people actually play roles rather then mindlessly grind skills. As for first person shooting, it's somewhat lacking due to the lag, but I have had fun at some shooter places in the game. Plenty of good weapons to get. The game is also good for people who want to make things, a sandbox game. It is what you make of it. |

This last post sums up the problem with SL nicely. Most of what you can do in this oddity, you can do easily and much more enjoyably in other games. I've tried SL twice, it's laggy, difficult to understand and filled with people who you have to suspect have very little in the way of a RL social life. They're trying sooo hard to make a success of their odd little virtual existences, yet, the fact is, you can wander into the town square in Stormwind any night of the week and hear more lively interaction and see more fun going on that you'll ever see in the staid, downright weird world of SL. It happens because social interaction (and selling stuff) are the only raisons d'etre for SL, leading most normal people to wonder, why would you bother? You can do this in your own RL every day and if you're that desperate to meet people, you can go to chatroom. Yes, there are people who love this 'game' and probably always will be. I've just never been able to get it... |

One thing that I don't understand: Why is porn always the bad-guy? Why are people so hung up on cyber-sex anyway? I mean, if two guys hook up on the internet and have a bunch of emote sex while they jack off, whilst convincing themselves the other is a girl, who really gives a fuck? As long as they're not hurting anyone, what does it truly matter? There's some truly bizarre and ignorant comments in this thread, from the 'furries are sick', to 'people who cyber online have no life' - yeh, and the mass-murder of fantasy creatures online means you do have a life? What ever happened to just being happy for people doing their own thing? If Billy over there likes to slaughter orcs all week long, cool! I'm glad you're having a good time. Johnny over there is roleplaying a well-hung shemale.. all power to him, I say. It's 2008, people, not the 12th century. Time to get over your hang-ups and just let people enjoy what makes them happy. As long as nobody is getting hurt.
