This game would be incredibly awesome... if it worked.  I'm currently running Vista 64 bit Ultimate on an Intel quad-core processor with 4 gigs of RAM and a Nvidia 8600GTS.  I've tried everything in the forums and I still suffer horrible pop-up.  I spent 5 minutes running in place last night until BAM the wall that was there finally rendered.  I'm beginning to wonder if it's just me because after watching som youTube videos I noticed the same kind of thing.  Rocks, trees, people all pop up out of nowhere 5 ft from your character.

I love the game mechanics and the gameplay, but this kind of graphical failure is unacceptable.  Even more ironic is the fact that the intro screen bares the famous "Nvidia, the way it's meant to be played."  The forums are full of users with problems relating to Nvidia graphics cards.

As I said, I've tried everything: turning graphics all the way down, running in XP compatability mode, disabling UAC, edititing config files... nothing seems to do the trick.  If anyone has a similar system and has the game running please let me know what you've done.  If not, anyone using a similar setup should take this as a warning.

You might wanna check the station.com for tech issues, they do have some tech support on the forums, maybe they'll have something similar to what you're experiencing.

I run the game on a configuration exactly like yours except my video card is an 8800gtx.  Things do pop up but 5 ft is kinda an exageration :)

The test server has a nice change although it needs some work but now things will start fading into existance not poping up.  This will help some as eq2 does it and even when you are watching for it it is hard to notice.  Hopefully before they release gu6 they will have tuned this so it works well.

I've used vista x64 for a while playing this game (using q6600, 2x8800GTX in sli and 8GB ram)

eventually I went back to xp x64 since vista was for some reason not that stable for me, sometimes the game crashed after 2 hours, sometimes only once a day,but it did too often and xp everything runs fine. However this is a hardware problem since my gf's pc runs the game fine (q6600, 8800gt and 8GB ram) on vista x64.

I noticed that turning on anti aliasing can do weird things with the game, including names not disappearing above characters for instance or flickering game objects that are sometimes only drawn from specific angles. It is avoidable, but it requires a lot of testing with different settings.

The most important setting "when using forced anti aliasing through the driver" for me was turning hardware occlusion off.

I would suggest posting on the official vanguard tech forum as well if you havent done yet. Good luck finding a solutution.

I've already gone through all the tech support resources, and since I'm a computer science major I know how to troubleshoot.  I'm currently playing on a 10 day trial, but I already have the game in the mail (ordered for $5).  So my plan is to wait  until GU6 and then activate my free 30 days.  Also downloading EQ 2 to see how that is.  I'll be disappointed if the same things happen there, but I'm hoping that its popularity means that it gets more love from SOE.

I do have antialiasing turned off.  As I said, I tried playing at bare minimum graphics settings and the same thing occurs.  My Vista 64 install is incredibly stable especially after the recent service pack.

After an entire night trying to get this game to work (I love the ideas of housing, boats, etc.) I only have this to say to the game:

It's not me.  It's you..

Yay for technopeen.  (Btw, i just made up that term, its now copyright)

While I can certainly understand one's affinity to the "latest greatest" in technology, sometimes there is just no need for it.  You would probably have run VG better on a lot cheaper system if you stuck with running xp.

I know that you'll come up with a bazillion valid reasons why you need Vista 64 and a quad core processor though, since you are a computer science major, and not just an overzealous consumer.

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

Hi,

I play on Vista 64 bit.

Use the latest drivers etc. I think your GPU is a bit lacking depending on what setting you use.

I had similar issues to begin with, but typing  /setfog 200000, 400000, 120, 120, 240 into chat fixed things up a bit better, instead of popping up NPC's every 25 m they are now around 100 m.
