I AGREE TIMES 4! The community EVE has right now will stay that way cuz anyone new has no chance. I can't stand this game at all. <a href="http://www.lolbase.net/us/Baneli"><img src="http://www.lolbase.net/us/Baneli/signature/626ffffff.png" alt="Signature for Baneli (us)" /></a> |

Most people would love to just sit and watch a toon smack something and do nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending eve, personally I think the game sucks hairy donkey's corpse's tail which has been rotting for 3 years, filled with festering maggots. However, I find this post pointless retarded. EVE grinds it's own way differently and mankind doesn't like change. It's in their blood you might say. Personally I shall pick up my wireless controller and beat this god forsaken Lost Odyssey. Freaking 4 discs. Then after that, it's dmmm: Elements. HURRAY!! Gah.
Cheers mate, Chaos. Take a deep drink of your demon Lad, tonight we tangle with the fire in the gut. |

I have no idea what the poster above me is on about, pvp is what this game revolves around too a far greater extent than any other. The economy is driven by pvp needs and wars (needing new materials and ships). As a miner I am producing and mining minerals which will be bought by ship builders, which will be used in a 0.0 sec war. As for catching up, that you can never catch people is a myth. Sure you will not be able to specialise in interceptors/cruisers/battlecruisers/battleships/dreadnoughts/carriers etc like a real veteran might be able to do so, nor will you be able to specialise in as many weapon systems as he can. But you can have good base skills like he has for pvp (navigations skills say) you can specialise in a single gunnery type and have the supports skills in the gunnery class for it, and you can specialise into flying a single ship type very well. As soon as you have done that you can pvp, after all the veteran can only use 1 specialisation from each category needed for pvp, which is exactly what you are doing. Oh and btw, you think In WoW you can catch people up? I played WoW from launch, I entered end game raids MC-->BWL--Naxx very quickly, you might have 'caught me' in terms of the level cap had you started 6 months after me, but you would never catch me up in terms of my gear, I would always be in a guild 1 or even 2 end game raid instances in front of you.

I just started playing EVE 3 months ago after leaving that shitbox of a game SWG and Im having no problem progressing in the game with skills and such it just takes time and patience and its easy to make money there also. I really think that most that didnt like it is because they didnt get their "Instant Gratification Button" with jumping to a Lev 90 with all the cool gear and ships but it doesnt work that way you have to earn it and be committed. This game isnt for the causal player or for the kiddies that want to own instantly you have to work towards it and I like the sandbox aspect of this game unlike most other MMOs these days with the cookie cutter WOW clone games this game is quite refreshing and different and better than what I was playing... http://www.speedtest.net/result/1775656162.png |

OK,.. I'm just gonna throw this out here... Might this be a way to make the game more interesting to those who find Eve to be a "grind" where the "little guy" (late-comer and/or more casual player) has MUCH too little "say" in the "politics" of the game: Give players a way to form "clubs", which are not dependent on anyone's corp affiliation, whereby "luck" in battle and in the market can be enhanced by sticking to the "bylaws" (code of conduct) of their "club"? "Club" membership can be either overt (is displayed somehow on their character) or covert (hidden), although being OVERT gains more "luck" for the same "effort" versus being COVERT. The more people IN the club, the more powerful the "luck bonus". The more adherent the members are to following "the code" (not disobeying) the more powerful the "luck bonus". The more time spent in "club advancement" (time which COULD have been used for "normal" skill training) the more powerful the "luck bonus".
So, might that help make Eve a bit less "boring" and/or "grindingly oppressive" to all you "little guys" (see above definition of "little guy") out there? |

You can't stand this game because you can't kill a veteran player. Bull crap. I have a fair amount of skill points, and I kill people that have way more than me, and people kill me that have less than me. Ya, thank you for leaving. We don't need people sitting there whining and being carebears about 'Oh I can't kill a vet player' because you can. You know, it actually requires you to use a...a...BRAIN! OMG! WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT?! I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE! Thank you for quitting. Just don't get why you think you understand the game though...you obviously don't... |

wow some people are really freaking stuipid, Wallpaper world? how the hell do you figure?.....eve is seemless and as big as it actually says, trillians upon trillians and even more trillans of kilometers or miles w/e you wanna convert to just for 1 solarsystem. sure the background doesn't change much but have you ever tried the premium content with the features turned on, those gas clouds and such are real in the background.......................ANYWAY I've been playing eve for about a year, I love it and yes there's several days where I sit in the station talking to corp members while my skills train, it's a game of patience not immediate results..........Also while I sit in station I plan my attack and strategy with building stations and deciding which system I wanna conquer next.......THAN there's the test server where everything is free and you get unlimited isk, training time is the same but having free +5 attribute boosters really speeds things up.............So before you knock the game play it for a full year without taking a break, it's about $100 but hey what game now a days isn't that expensive........................Tell me what you think when you actually PLAY the game not put your toes in the water and run away like a little kid because it's not the perfect temperature...............You guys need to grow up and get with the program, this is one of the big reasons why eve's average player age is 27 and not 12, AKA wow, eudemons, conquer, flyff, zero online, maple story, etc etc... |

I would much rather play this game then any of those other WoW or WoW cookie cutter games. EVE is a game that takes bit more thought so maybe that is way this guy can't understand. I have to say he can't understand it because he misrepresented just so many aspects of the game. Just this statement "Some of the missions will start you out 15 minutes away from the jumpgate....." is SO out of touch. 15 minutes???? Either he has such a 1990 computer or he doesn't know how to play this game. Maybe he hasn't played this game? I wonder? Let's party like it is 1863! |

I have been a hardcore sci-fi addict (whether it be Star Wars, a Trekkie, a Cap Trooper, or a Gou'ald, you name it.) So, the game is crap? How would you react if i say "World of Warcraft stink to f*cking high jinks!"? Not good, right? EVE Online is created to those gamers who are more MATURE and PATIENT. If you are not patient and mature ENOUGH, then play WoW (or Lineage 2 or any cheesy fantasy-based RPGs) for Chrissakes. As for the "seniority" issue, what's the difference? It is clear as a day blue sky that older (or Beta) players have the advantage, whether it be in-game or in REAL LIFE. So, if you are not interested in sci-fi, then please, do not bad-mouth sci-fi games, comprende? |

I dont agree with all teh OP says but I do agree that learning skills offline is a bad idea....... While newer players may be able to compete eventaully at certain phases of the game there is no way they can ever catch up skill wise.......Besides how good is a game where you get better by not actually playing it??? |

Half the fun of Eve is the meta-game. For example... There is a way to advance faster through the skill system though. Make a ton of ISK ingame, and just buy another character for the ISK off the forums. I made enough ISK in my first 3 months to pay for two accounts, and a character with twice the SP of my original. |

Fun game! Only flaws is the introduction for new players is crap. Makes the vets feal superior. They the time sinks are stupid and need to be rethought. They need to reduce travel. Bryan |

Like all those other fantasy games that have you grinding for experience points, I hate that system. At least in eve you have real time training and although people who have played longer have the skill advantage over newer players. But, all you need is about 10mil Sp to be good at killing. Spend some time and you will see this game is a whole lot better than many MMORPG's. One other thing to consider is that all players log in to the same server. So there is a chance to communicate with other friends without have been locked out of a particular server because it has reached it's limit. |

I'd think you can't call this game crap unless you were never were all that interested from the begining but after having so much frusteration it would probably slip from me too and I'm very patient. I've played the trial several times and two months ago decide to finally give it a good try so I upgraded to paying account. At first its aways fun to me but then as I'm getting tired of grinding missions I try to make it fun by looking for a corp. Trying to find a corp was a real pain in the ass for me, always finding one that were too inactive, did only mining/missions or just didn't do pvp at all. Then I had the option to join a pirate corp but I couldn't be promised I'd make any profit and could very well loose a lot of isk. I eventaully found one that has a pretty good size allaince and did get into pvp. I got involved in some fleet operations with an ewar ship but I didn't feel like I was doing much to help. As the month progressed I'd have to sit online most of the day to hope to join in on some action. So once again its turning into logging in only to set more skills to que then log off again. If I spend most of my time playing sure I'll make some isk but I'll feel like I wasted my time because I'd progess just as much offline. Looks like I'll unsubscribe, close my Evemon planner for a HAC- still 50 days out, and wonder how long before I pick it up again. Vets have no advantage? if you go head to head the same ship type they would be far more specialized that you could be in 2 months or more and have billions of isk to buy the best possible weapons/ammo. |
