"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch

Hello everyone, I have a bit of free internet time on my vacation, so I'll post this.

There have been a lot of threads lately about the community in general.  About personal attacks, fanbois, trolls etc.  People always arguing and being harsh.

And to people who complain about this, I think that EVERY forum has people like these.  Personal attacks happen (in AoC, WoW, and the Pub morew than others) but there are people like this everywhere.  The fanbois, the trolls, the infest every forum.  IF people can manage to look past the people like that, then these forums are truely a great place.

When you look past the angry people. you see some truely great people.  On these forums, I have gotten countless help when it comes to games.  I have made some great friends, I have joked around with other members, I have joined guilds, began guilds, and have even decided to contribute to the community by offering to become a  voulanteer staff writer with this community in just the six months I have been here.  People offer to help me when I have questions, and I have even been given a few buddy keys :)

A lot of great discussions go on here daily, and while there are people who just make personal attacks, there are others who are here to have a civil discussion.  Good luck finding a forum where there are no personal attacks, no fanbois, no trolls....IMHO, it is all the different kind of posters which is a reason why I love these forums.

So, to those of you angered with the community, look past the angered crowd...the ones blind by fanboism, or hate, or no maturity. ...Stay away from the forums with them, and don't respond when being attacked.

In all honesty, the arguing is one of the reasons I love these forums, and I have had great debates over the time I have been here.  The community really is filled with great people, you just have to look past the immature crowd.  I know I did, and I have made friends (and rivals) by doing so.

Agreed.

Some people take the internet (and forums in general) too seriously.  Filter out the garbage, it's not that hard.

I definately agree the forums are a place for people to talk about what we all have in common and have debates about what we believe. MMORPG is an amazing forum with lots of people and like you said changes daily. The more people who read your post I think the better.

It is, of my opinion that there is an underlining negativity to the user/posting base of MMORPG.com by default.  Mostly.  Especially the SWG "vets".    They kind of remind me of what you would find as the in studio audience at a "The View" taping.

No I dont play SWG.

I don't think any forum community could ever anger me - it's just people on the internet, after all. Trolls, haters and fanbois are cheap entertainment, just like MMOGs in general. ;-)

And yes, these forums contain some really interesting discussions and great people. I wish I had more time to participate in-depth sometimes, instead of just dropping by for 10 minutes here and there.

I intend to live forever -- So far so good!

Even though I do tend to filter out all the garbage, it's still a bit demoralizing to come and see posts everywhere about how this sucks, and that sucks, and this is a copy of that, and so and so is ripping off that guy over there.  After a certain point it makes people question why they even come here if they need to get past all that crap just to get a meaningfull conversation going.  I think it might discourage people with good intentions from comming here or staying, and we all know we need more of those kind of people.

if life gives you lemons make beef stew

Mike's right, trolls and fanboi's and other crap seem to keep people away, which is a shame because there are some great people here to discuss MMO's with in threads and talk about the topics, but instead it ends up being pages of pages of flame wars.

There shold be a rule where you should get suspended/banned for trolling and "provoking a riot", ahh that would be the day.

Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?

We're in the ERA of spoiled people. Everything is easy, so much that you don't even have to leave home to get your favorit games. Most of them can be downloaded while your eating dinner and I'm not talking illegal Torrent copies.

So you get the standard screaming and whinning from these people and the more calm and serene people tend to just ignore it. Once in a while, they will add their word of wisedom but when a fire starts, it often takes more then a bucket of water.

MMORGP is a good forum, no need to look elsewhere really. Seriously, unless you're in a very private forum, you'll see all sorts of post and that's true in any community... IRC... Forums... 90s BBS chats... you name it!
