But Funcom hosts a Team Fortress 2 server which I ended up playing on one day. After talking about the game for a bit one of the server admins (claims to be a dev) asked how old i was. Not knowing where he was going with this i just said 19.

After i said that the dev/admin started ranting for a few minutes about how someone as young as me has no idea the time and effort it takes to develop an MMO.

That's true i don't. But to me, this dev seemed like a "little baby" after I mentioned my opinion. So to me it seems the devs don't like anyone critiquing their "masterpiece".

To me, it doesn't matter if I know how the development process works.  All I know is that alot of work goes into it.

Now, as a (now former) paying customer, I just need to know this:

* Are the listed, hyped about features in-game?  Why not?  WHEN are they coming out?

* I know there will be bugs.  That's a given for any MMO, especially new ones.  But the main thing is this... how quickly are the devs resolving issues, especially major ones?  How are fixes to broken abilities and classes going along?

* If you're going to Nerf, then fix things instead of  only crippling classes.

There's more for me, but these are the core ones, esp. when it came down to AoC.  Since the answers to the above points were all in a negative direction, I felt no heartache when I hit the Cancel button.

Funcon Dev's are probubly laughting there heads off all the way to the bank.

They dont care, with all the sells this game had It made profit I bet.

Mmorpg's cost lots of money to make. they ran out of it.....

They dont care about what you think. To them your a bunch of dummies that bought

there game with faith it was any good. And they wish it was but they ran out of money and had to pay back

a hole lot they had borrowed ,

"Oh BTW this game Suck but still buy it We need to pay off a hole lot of cash."

I did not buy this game, and I wont buy WAR right at launch.  If you do and are disapointed then you only

have your own stupidity to blame.

I played this game about 2 weeks before quitting, my brothers stick to hit for some reasons, i just can't believe a company actiing like that.   To post any cristisism about the game earn you a ban from their forum.  I lost all respect i had for this company.  Maybe communism is accepted in Oslo, but not in the rest of world.

Well, as a mod on the AoC forums, i can tell you it's against the Eula to post information about your account.  An example of this is to say that you are quitting the game, and canceled your subscription.

Information, as in password, account I.D. etc..Not a well written critique that just happens to have, "I cancelled", at the end of it.

If I'm wrong, then post a link to the eula that clearly states it. If it's in general terms then anything could be considered "account information".

I have a Ranger. I just told you about my account.

See how that works buddy?

P.S. and this is your first post here, go figure.

And this is why AOC forums are screwed. They need to train the morons they have working on the boards. This guy is an idiot. Just think for a moment and you can see how if he really does believe what he says the forums are just going to remain a laughing stock.

He believes saying you cancelled your account is against the EULA because your not allowed to talk about your account. Your not allowed to say your leaving because your talking about your account.

if I say I subbed for a year and love he game then he would ban me because I am talking about my account. If I helped a guy with account problems and told him how I fixed mine he would ban me for talking about my account AND the guy asking for help, because its talking about his account.

If this guy honestly believes that talking about your account is wrong, then he should be named shamed and kicked from the mod team.

Not it is not. But.. I lived in Norway for some time, but... I hope this is not going to offend any norwegian, since it is not my intention, but.. well.. norwegians have a special mentality, Most  of them are not that open to other views apart the ones they have and as foreigner there, working in and for their behalf, many times i found myself crashing on "stone walls" when trying to explain that certain simple concepts and perspectives while might be valid to norway, are not shared in equal fashion by everyone.

and strangely I worked also in sweden .. and can say that is much more easier to engage in a conversation and exchange of ideias with the swedish .

A company running a multi-multi-million-dollar enterprise should take pains to make sure that their Public Faces (forum moderators, tech support personnel, etc.) are of the highest quality. They should use letter-perfect English in print and should be able to maintain a top-notch level of professionalism in all circumstances.

I encounter this in my work all the time - more "technically-minded" people (engineers, etc.) tend to have a certain disdain for the more liberal-arts educated. In short, they think writing and communicating are for English-major girls and they find customers to be nuisances.

In gaming, this typically manifests intself on the official forums. Devs think they know how to manage customer communication because they are smart and know the game. When they find out they don't know the first thing about dealing with customers, they either clam up or hire/appoint some intern or a bunch of "community leaders" to do this job for them.

This is a HUGE mistake, but I see it constantly. Any company with an investment of this size, dealing with millions of fickle customers in a highly competitive, highly public, highly-internet-discussed industry is harming themselves immeasurably by delegating the critical duties of communication and customer service to amateurs and fans on power trips.

The above post == "win";

Social Guidelines

The Age of Conan bulletin board is a place for players to talk about the game, discuss and share knowledge, and engage in role-playing. The general topic for the bulletin board is the game and the community around Age of Conan.

In order to maintain the boards and be able to provide feedback, we must reserve the right to enforce certain standards and rules. Please understand that this bulletin board is owned and operated by Funcom. It is a privately run message board, and all rules are enforced at our discretion.

Alias

Your alias should be short and unique to easily identify you and set you apart from others. The rules for your alias are:

  • Keep it to 15 characters or less.
  • Use only letters, numbers (0-9), space ( ), hyphen (-) and underscore (_) in the alias.
  • Avoid offensive aliases.

Signature

Your signature is a good place for including some info about yourself, a quote you like, or links to your characters. The signature should not take the attention away from the posts though, and thus we have these rules for signatures:

  • Limit it to a maximum of 10 lines, including any empty lines.
  • Use normal text size or smaller. I.e. no [size=x] tags with x > 2.
  • Don't overdo the colors and smileys.
  • Avoid the [quote] tag, as it takes up a lot of space.

Do

Following are some guidelines that you should keep in mind when posting. Remember that the general topic on the bulletin board is Age of Conan.

  • Post in English, using proper mixed case and punctuation. A single exclamation mark (!) or question mark (?) is enough.

  • Use a relevant, specific and descriptive subject for a thread. "I was thinking of something" and "Here's an idea" are not good topics.

  • Stay on topic. When posting a new thread, make sure it fits into the topic of the forum. When replying to a post, make sure to stay on the topic of the thread you're posting in.

  • Be constructive and back up your statements. If quoting, make sure to quote all relevant text, and if needed, provide a link to the source.

  • Pay the moderators and other volunteers proper respect. They spend their spare time to assist and improve the Age of Conan community.

  • Be nice, especially to newcomers. Let people become acquainted with the environment and do beginners' mistakes without patronising them. Please respect that people may have a different political, religious, philosophical, and cultural background than you.

  • Play fair. Be truthful and respect other people's privacy. Do not misrepresent or impersonate others.

  • Have fun! That's why we're all here. Just remember to have fun with others, not at the expense of others.

Don't

This is a list of things you should not do on our bulletin board. If you do any of this, you might find your access to the bulletin board closed, possibly permanently.

  • Flame. Flaming is verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company. Name-calling and defamatory comments are typical examples of flaming.

  • Rant. Ranting is posting irate and normally unconstructive comments. It's normally used to let out frustration, but also as a form of trolling.

  • Troll. Trolling is posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant. Trolling is sometimes done involuntary, so please be considerate when posting.

  • Spam. Spamming is posting the same thing several times, or posting without any real content. "Bumping" (posting to move a thread up on the forum list) and cross-posting (posting the same thread in several forums) are examples of spam.

  • Fight. Taking a personal conflict to the bulletin board is not needed. Allow those not involved to avoid having to see it.

  • use profanity Please respect other users and do not use foul language and profanity in your posts. This includes trying to 'mask' such language by substituting letters or symbols.

  • Necromancy Raise threads long dead. Necromancy should be saved for Necromancers, not forums posts.

  • Be a jerk The Golden Rule of our forums and enforcement is "Don't Be A Jerk."

Before starting a thread, take a look around the forums and see if the issue is being discussed elsewhere. There'll usually be one or two threads with most of the activity there, and spin-offs that don't merit their own thread will be closed quickly.

On a related note, do not make parody threads, especially centered on hot topics. They're probably not funny and a good way to inflame the situation further.

If someone is flaming you or otherwise acting like a jerk, the Report button is the best way to get our attention. We understand things can get heated at times, but nasty retorts and counter-flaming are a good way to get an entire thread closed and both sides suspended/banned.

We ask you not to discuss politics or religion on the forums. For the purposes of these rules, discussions on race and national origin (excepting, of course, in game race/national origin) will fall under the banner of “politics.”

We ask you not to discuss warez and other illegal activity.

Catchphrases, memes, image macros, Rickrolls, and other such Internet tomfoolery are funny until the moderators decide they aren't funny anymore. Along with their banhammer, they are also issued badges from the Humor Police.

While these don't apply to a game in a pre-launch state, for the sake of completeness, we include them here.

Individual account issues (in-game banning, problems with your account, GM issues) go through customer support emails or in private messages. If there is a serious problem with customer support, please contact a community person.

Posting of any account details (especially “I've cancelled”, cancellation screens, etc.) is prohibited.

Moderation

Moderation is not ever a topic for open forum. If you have any questions or feedback on moderation it should be addressed to the community manager or the specific moderator via private message.

  • Do not post threads questioning moderation. Such threads will be removed

  • If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to why a thread was closed or removed please contact the moderator via private message.

There are the rules for posting that everyone agrees to by posting on the forums.  In the rules it states Posting of any account details (especially "I've Cancelled") is prohibited.  Do not get mad at the moderators when they are following the rules that Funcom has in place.  (And has had in place since I think 2005 well before Age of Conan)  These are Funcom's rules for posting.  It isn't much different from other boards I have been to.  I don't know of a single company that allows posters to make posts about how they are leaving the game.

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

then my friend you suffer from a severe case of shortsight. "Goodbye posts" are usual in most mmorpgs forum. I personally made a "i quit for  now" on wow forum, stating that i would be taking a break until WOTLK and it is still there after 2 months. Not only that but even got a humorist answer from the Community manager " it is always good to take some vacancies. See you maybe in 5 to 7 months " ( what means WOTLK would be coming around november or so).

Even  on the "evil" SOE forums this post  are not unsual and allowed unless they present a clear provocation or insult.

I have to agree with the OP.  Funcom now has an agenda of silencing negative criticism for their game regardless of the facts.  I left the game myself, not because of the forum nazis, but because of the many overall flaws with the game and because of Funcom's lies to the public.  It's just not fun to ride on that bus any longer.

Check my other posts and you'll see how a stupid moderation can lead an honest and polite player to... well have a look by yourself.

Well then, I tell you which single company that allows (or most of the time: simply don't give a damn) you (at least me) to post 'I quit' threads: that's Blizzard.

I have made one when Priest was nerfed~ I posted in the main thread w/ a screenshot of my cancellation -- and nothing happens to me or my account. I actually resubscribed when they softened the nerf.

If AoC is so good, you don't need moderator to close threads -- your own players will shoot down people who quits. Have you been to WoW forums ? People are making quit posts on hourly basis, and here's how the conversation normally goes:

Quitter: "I quit. Blizzard sux."
Random Poster1: "Can I have your stuff, please ?"
Random Poster2: "Don't let the door hits you."
Random Poster3: "QQ MOAR"

Funcom, you're having a problem, and people just voice their concern -- instead, you're trying even harder to fail by opting to shoot the messenger rather than addressing the real issue.

Do a proper damage control: admit there are issues w/ the game and you're working hard to fix them. Your customers are not your enemy~ congrats Funcom: you've unlocked the achievement "Burning the Bridge".

Yay glad to hear you like the swedish^^

The rules against the I'm cancelling bs means that funcom knew they had a piece of crap, and wanted to sell it anyway. Thats what that says to me.
