Player accomplishment is relative to the chance of meaningful consequences in the event you loose.

The asnswer is simple.  These games used to appeal to a more mature audience, now they appeal to a younger audience.

Money is what you get when you have nothing to offer the person that has what you want.

Player skill: The ability to choose the correct action for a given situation and implement that action under certain time constraints.

I always thought your posts about AoC were pretty spot on. Despite a large force of AoC fanboys you kept at it and in the end, were proven right along with everyone else about the real sorry state of the game. Since then though you seem to have changed, probably just got burned one too many times with bad mmos, and you are overly critical and jumping the gun on everything else without a real valid reason. You are stuck in that AoC mindset. People naturally react to you being overly critical and instead of looking to yourself for fault, you put all of mmorpg.com to blame for the reaction.

A break would do you good to get back to where you were, giving things a fair chance and waiting for evidence before crucifying it.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

"Vae Victus!"

I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately there is no way to police the general mood of a forum. Because so many other forums on other web sites hostile, people who frequent them just assume that sort of juvenile attitude is the norm. When they come to another site they bring it with them and well it spreads and becomes more common then intellectual conversation till it IS the norm and it becomes difficult to dispute peoples actions as being deviant when so many others act the same way.

Like the 2nd poster said, in order to tolerate these forums I have to pick and choose my threads carefully and avoid threads which are simply people venting, nitpicking, or lamenting flaws in a game. Those are not productive and generally degrade into name-calling. While I wish people could bring up flaws, discuss them and talk about ways they could be improved, it just won't happen here anymore. Too often a joker feels the urge to add levity to the conversation through hyperbole or sarcastic insulting humor which not everyone gets. Someone gets offended and the thread degrades into flames.

If that were the case my most recent Blog post would be gone.

Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?

Look at the number of post you have and look at the adverage. While you don’t have all that much, you still have quite a lot of post since your first day here. You might want to step back and look things from a different perceptive. The community hasn’t changed since day 1 and I strongly think that it’s still a decent one.

Also what you might not understand or know is that many MANY people on this forums are actual game devs and such. They won’t scream it but you would be surprise. Giving your opinion is great, it doesn’t mean you have to give it everytime you feel like it. I see tons of people talking about Kotor, WOW and SWG… You don’t see me posting in there and tryng to give my 2 cent that EVE dominates those games. I simply skip and move on to another topic.

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG.

So you're saying the forums haven't changed, but the OP has changed into a crying little girl?

I think you can only compare EVE to other games where you play a metal object like a spaceship or a car. For example the MMORPG Auto Assault.

I don't want to play a car, or spaceship, or a bicycle, I want to play a person.

There are some good mmos out there, it's just that some players are overly critical and fickle.  Some of you will NEVER be happy with ANY future mmo.  You should do us a favor and take up another hobby so the rest of us can enjoy ours.

kthnx.

I agree with Thradar.  I've been here a while and have read many post by both Lobo and Eik.  Seen alot of complaints lately about how the MMO genre is de-evolving.  Honestly I don't think the genre is the problem, I think it's the people.  No matter what type of game gets put out.  It never seems to be enough to keep anyone happy.  It's always a comment about turning something new into something old, when none of the games they said were so great, are actually gone.  EQ still there, UO still there.   SWG... well I'll give you that one.

Developers could make you the perfect game with everything you could ever want, and I seriously doubt any of you would be happy.  There would still be complaints or post about changing this, that or the other.
