How well will this laptop run EQ2? (copy and pasted from the specs page)

Processor (CPU)

 INTEL® Pentium® DualCore T2370 (1.73GHz) 533MHz FSB/1MB Cache

Memory (RAM)

 2GB CORSAIR DDR2 667MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x1GB)

Operating System

 Genuine Windows XP™ Home + SP3, CD & Licence (£49)

Memory - Hard Disk

160GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (5,400rpm)

CD/DVD Drive

 8x DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)

Graphics Card

 512MB GEFORCE 8600GT + D-SUB + TV-OUT

Sound Card

Realtek ALC268 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC IN/Phones Out

Modem & Mobile Broadband

 INTEGRATED 56KBPS V92 MODEM

Network Facilities

Onboard Gigabit LAN & WIRELESS 802.11G NETWORK CARD

If anyone could tell me what I might have problems with or what might slow EQ2 down, that would be great :D

Second Question: Is there any sign of EQ2 shutting down in the near future?

Oh, a third question: £562 inc VAT and Delivery for this laptop. Is that a fair price?

This should be more than fine, in fact I think you can run EQ2 at max on this laptop.....

you can run this on your notebook; however, you cannot run EQ2 maxed settings on any current PC or notebook.

Seriously? Not any current PC or laptop? But people always say on forums and stuff like  "I ran EQ2 on max settings yesterday, it was well good."

There are some people that think that if the game is running faster than 2 frames per second then it's fine.  I couldn't imagine anyone getting better than a slideshow at truly max settings on a raid.  Soloing, I'm sure they could, but I wouldn't imagine the FPS would satisfy anyone who is senstive to that sort of thing.  Some people can play at low FPS, but it's not good performance.

Just look at all the EQ2 videos on youtube, and watch the god awful framerates people are getting if they're playing with max settings.

Everquest 2 is not optimized for multi-core processors at all, which is the main reason super-high-spec quad core processors run the game slower than the fastest single cores.

That said, I think if you remove some of the pointless options such as cloth simulation and the atmospheric haze or whatever, the game runs very smooth and looks very nice.

Yea no one can run EQ2 at max.....I tried it yesterday.....It was a damn slide show.....I do not understand why, since I can run GW at max, WoW at max, LOTRO and DDO at max, why not EQ2?

Well, I dont mind turning off some of the stuff in EQ2, as long as I can play it on that laptop without a really low frame rate.

Are you saying I should change the thing on my laptop for a single core one? Or is a dual core processor fine?

most important thing for eq2 is cpu clockspeed, so if you want to run at max, best get a cpu that you can overclock to 4ghz+. (think you can push some of the core 2 duo models that far if you have a good cooling).

but its also true that you won't be able to raid on max quality even with that.

Yes you can run EQ2 very well on those specs.

But as another poster mentioned, EQ2 is hard to run on extreme settings even on the best computers out there, because of the unorthodox way that the graphics engine is built, namely being CPU bound instead of GPU bound
