"My soul finds rest in God alone: My salvation comes from Him."

I have been thinking about subscribing to another MMO as well, I thought about LoTR because I LOVE the books/movies but I heard that at low levels there is no players hardly and that the end-game is pretty boring. I am wanting a PVP game if LoTR is not worth it, anyone have some input?

There are just a handful of "real" PvP games. By real, I mean no artificial "carebear" limits on PvP. Ganking, murder gangs, player justice or no justice.

I'm not a "real" PvPer, but I've heard EvE is pretty hardcore, with a nasty death penalty to boot. L2 is pretty hardcore PvP from what I know. DAOC is opening a new server soon that has some buzz, worth a look.

There is Fury (fail), not sure about the upcoming Aion's PvP.

If you want a polished game with loads of PvE content, limited (very) PvP, but lots of quality of life bells and whistles, good story telling and with a huge free update about to drop (or did it yet?), you were right first time - LOTRO.

Guess what? They don't charge you for the free trial! Imagine!

FunCom aren't fools, they are trying to squeeze out every cent they can out of each customer,  they know they won't be getting many long term subscribers.  The only upside could be that Gaute Godager never helms another MMO development.

Agreed. One thing I can give to Brad McQuaid is that in the end he was apologetic for the outcome of VG. Guatte's smugness about his awesome launch and the 700,000 boxes sold, while the player base screams bloody murder on the forums really pisses me off.

The way you put it here is the best I've ever seen it. I hate Gaute, he's way to smug considering the game's current state. I guess hes hoping Xbox will do it for them, truth is, only people who are going to want to play it are those who missed out because of their computer specs.

I just downloaded LoTR free trial to give it a shot, I was always a HUGE fan of the books/movies. If I like it I may switch to that for a while and see how AoC does in a few months.

So hardcore players/guilds are leaving the game. As of now I dont understand very well why people leave. Well, My max level is a guardian level 28. So Im still in the low level range, the one with polished content. I think Im a casual players becouse I dont have too much time to play. With Age Of Conan Im not rushing because I like the game and I dont like rushing the stuff I like, so Im still not having as much troubles to make me leave the game. Im starting to think, actually hardcore players/guild leave everygame released lately. Maybe the problem is, games are released to cater casual players, with content enought for casual players not for hardcore ones?. Im not trying to flame anyone here. And why to do that?. Because you can rush in 2 or 3 months content you needed 1 year to develop. So, it's imposible to cater the hardcore players anymore. Content need a lot of time to be developed, and little time to be rushed. No, is not hardcore players fault, is just a matter of developing time, vs money spent vs playing time.

Anyway, it's really a pity buying a game wanting to have fun and finding your self quiting after 3 months. Well, or not. You can finish some games in a weekend, Call of duty 4, for example. And is not a bad game isn't it?

Fully agree, I'm playing casual aswell, use to be hardcore ,but these games as you have mentioned arn't really hardcore anymore, so kinda pointless to play such game hardcore as like you say most  atleast that consider themselfs hardcore will often with most games leave after 1/2 months cause these people seem to be clueless in how to play MMORPG and alway's rush thru the content even tho they full well know that it is stupid to go after things we know aint working, afcourse doesn't make it right things are not working but the inpatients we see with people TRYING to play games in this genre keeps amazing me and will eventuely be the downfall of MMORPG as we knew them, Oh wait all those complainers have already made MMORPG into what it is today. But I am almost 100% sure they don't even know or understand this.

So please keep leaving guy's, afcourse simply stop playing a game that isn't fun to you, but please stop this foolish NOOB rush playstyle, but then again seeing most of these people continue to have hte same playstyle and funny is to ee them at every new release never the less and after a few weeks the same complaints we saw them saw at a former game will be said once again, cause these people totaly ignore how much time it takes to actualy creat something, and then see these people rush to things that took years and years to develop as if it's nothing. Damn shame to see such gamers or in other words wanna-be and trying to be gamers. Now don't get me wrong I hate it that games don't have enough content, but I do realize how much time it cost to develop these games, something it seems hardly anyone complaining seems to understand.

im in born in chaos on deathwhisper my guild is one of the elite guilds on the server and we are all very content in AOC still. we are almost done with our tier 2 city and we have almost 60 active members. we are more of an adult guild with a more casual style of gameplay. never the less we are either at level 80 or close to it. i think we got 6 lvl 80s and about 25 ppl in the 70s. i dont know though i havent noticed much of a dip in player base but ppl quitting is bound to happen in any game. regardless im having fun with my guild so thats all that matters

They might.

The9, the Chinese company, paid up front around 100 million USD to release WoW in China. Roughly 35 million USD for the lisense, about 70 million USD for initial equipments and data center cost because Blizzard require all top of the line servers.

Even after paying 100 millions USD at once, remember, they have to pay this in very short amount of time, not over 4 - 5 years, they sill making money hand over fist with WoW China.

I believe they recover their investment in the first year of releasing WoW China.

WoW didn't launch in China until sometime in mid 2005.  The game was already a success by then and long after the $120 million dollars that Thillian claims Blizzard spent to launch the game.

You called me a liar and you apparently know half as much as I do about all this. Success can be predicted in a way. Even as we know now AoC turned to be a flop, they made enough money on box sales to be able to announce expansion. And all this because of advertisment. People obviously underestimate the power of advertisment. WoW had even bigger advertisment campaign before release than AoC. And in a way it was kinda enjoyable game for all the pre-btnet people that either played Warcraf t 3 or Diablo.

Indeed 120$ is enough to finance a holywood blockbluster, but I'm not sure what are you trying to say here. That Blizzard should rather do a movie with all these money?
