I am seeing keys displayed on threads in this forum and in signature for 15 days free added to a regular 30 day sub. Why are people displaying these keys, assuming only 1 person can activate any given key? There are thousands of people browsing these forums, meaning there are probably hundreds of people trying out these keys, and only 1 person can use any given key. That leaves hundreds others wasting a lot of time inputing keys that have already been used. Why are people doing this, rather than sending a key to people who want one in the mmorpg mail? It just makes much more sense. Thanks |

As the person who pretty much started that trend (yes, it's true) I can answer that. 1) Asking for a key, waiting for someone to get the message, obtain a key and send it mail, then retrieving it - that takes longer than attempting a couple different used keys would. (Were that the case anyway.) 2) There's a limit on how many keys a person can give out at once. What happens is that people ask and then change their minds. Or ask publicly, not say when they have one, and get from 5 different people. If I send a key direct to your mailbox I don't even know what it is. Those unused keys can prevent the giver from handing out more for up to 90 days. So my next step was to send the buddy key to myself and then manually give it out. But I shortly figured out that this really doesn't solve the problem as I don't know how long to let someone sit on a key before re-gifting it. So it just seemed easiest to be open about the process. You want a key, here it is. 3) I can't speak for anyone else, but I check my list once a day to see if the key has been used. When that happens, I change it. Is it possible two people are coming by in a day, the first gets it and the second doesn't? Yeah, I suppose so. It seems unlikely though considering that most days no one needs it at all. I sincerely doubt hundreds of others are entering used keys. And if someone is they should shout out. I'll put one just for you in your mail. (But then you have to use it in a week or I take it back. :) ) p.s. I used to do it with Trial Keys too. But there's a trial key available on the front page of this site, so chances are anyone who needs mine is up to no good. |

I see. Well, I used one of the keys floating around a day ago and it worked, so I guess it isn't such a bad idea after all. Maybe there aren't hundreds of people breaking down the doors to get these keys. |

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content! |
I'm definitely one of those people who posts keys -- I only do it when I'm on frequenlty though as I think it's a bit abusive to just show up on a website to advertise for referrals and contribute nothing else. The community should help the rest of the community out, ya know? Anyhoo, I think most people are on top of their keys although I'll readily admit I slacked for the past week as life's been busy ( ' ; Still, it's pretty easy to find a re-invite key amongst this group. Have fun in game! |
