let me just say before the haters get in here.

That download fee is compensated by the extra 3 days playtime. Download for $3 for 10 days playtime, or lend install cd's for 7 days playtime - pretty fair imo. Especially considering the size of the download.

Just had to ask one point here....what other games charge ppl for the trial? I have done a few trials in my day n never been charged by any other unless I decide to sub. Shouldn't a free trial be just that...free?

You're essentially paying for using their DL service , Have a freind with a game disc ,there's no fee.

Is AoC that good a game that we all have to complain about such lame things like this now? i mean come on a miniscule fee for 3 extra days, what a scam lol. you would have though people wouldn't need to look so hard to find something to complain about if the game was as bad as some say lol!

I think they are going to have a hard time selling hyped games next time. The Secret World is probably going to be scrapped. AoC for 360 will probably never see the light of the day. Funcom will merge the fools who pay 3€ into their "accounts created" and "games sold" statistics. So very soon Funcom will say that server pops are on the rise, 1.250.000 accounts created etc.

Its all about having individual accounts giving even a tiny amount of money to Funcom so they can boost their stats.

If I have the beta client already, do you suppose I have to re-download and pay the fee?

Game is the biggest mmo on your hard drive, its gonna cost someone time to get it there - you have to pay the price of a cup of coffee to get it.

Talk about covering the cost of bandwidth.

Remember when IGN charged $5 from their site, FC are doing $3 for the same game to cover costs.

Are u bullshitting me??  I was always told that the whole point of paying 15 bucks a month was to cover their server costs and further implementations of the game.

It's extremely fraustrating - I can't bring myself to play a game that everyone says is s*** without a free trial. Unless some kind soul sends me a buddy key I'm afraid funcom will have to scam someone else :)

Also, you pay for a buddy key you expect to use it, not when funcom decide you can use it. "we cba upgrading the servers so we'll wait for enough paying subscribers to ragequit then we'll let you pay $5 to try our game"

The worst thing is that if you are a casual player you will probably barely get out of Tortage during these 7-10 days.

ya, seems kind of weird. This week i downloaded DAoC, Shrouded Islands, Catacombs, and Trials of Ascension for free, and got a 14 day free trial, and that game has hardly anyone playing it to support the cost of the servers...

Thats just one example, it is pretty common to have many options for client downloads some of which are always free.

I think they are banking on the fact that the people who spent the money on CE don't have many friends to loan their disks too, so anyone giving buddy keys over the internet will have to pay to play.

10 Days is bare minimum to make a decision on an MMO with any depth, 7 days you won't really have a good gauge of it, so they'll end up paying the first months sub just to give it an honest evaluation.

Also, with all the increased account activity, hopfully the account servers don't have problems and people are able to cancel. ;)

You do realize the reason you might of had problems with the download don't you ? Secondly you might want to get used to paying for downloads , in the near future we might all be paying by the bit to dl stuff all over the interwebz.

If you pay 50 bucks for a game you have to pay 3 bucks again just to download what you just payed 50 bucks for. Thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard. If people were smart they would just download the game from some torrent and use there key.

Are Funcom really so cheap that they have to charge people money to try there free trial? Its great they offer more free days, but if you hate it after playing it for only one or two days, you kind of wasted your money. Thats the whole point of a free trial.

It doesnt matter if it costs 3 dollars or 1 cent, no other company charges for free trials, its just wrong. Funcom are one of the worst gaming companys going, I hope they go bust, I really do.

I really did hope that this game could be great, it had an awesome opportunity to be one of my favorites for years. Too bad it is run by, as you describe it, a shit company. I was fooled in the beginning, but with absolutely no sign this far in of changing their ways then I have lost all hope for this game. Now I could care less if everything is fixed and implemented and becomes the best thing ever made. I will never buy this game or a product made by FC ever again.

The sad thing is though, reading many of the responses, this company will survive, if not become one of the top if it is supported by the idiots who think it's alright that they're being charged in every single opportunity FC can charge them. Does anyone responding get that it isn't the amount of the cost, but the fact that there is a cost in itself? Do you guys not realize that this has been happening since OB? I can forgive a company who takes advantage once in a while, but when their ultimate goal is shown right in my face then I'll tell them to f*ck off and move on to the next area for entertainment. At least we still have some of the good companies to fall back to... but the breed is slowly dieing. Appreciate them while we still have them, folks.

I officially surrender, trolls The game may not be as bad as you all describe it, but the company running it most certainly is. I'm off to find better sources for entertainment... and no longer pretend that FC will change it's ways.

A mmo without a downloadable trial, I hope funcom knows some people wont even buy a game untill they dabble in it a bit. Sounds like a pretty cool game even with the lacking content and bugs, Id love to give it a try but there's no trial. Plus if you have a buddy key you still have to pay...

Why FC with it's supposed huge success of AoC need to charge for bandwidth to d/l a game? After all many other games that are less successful don't charge.

I don't think it is really a matter of how much...it is more a matter of something that is meant to sway future subscribers. Why nail them for $3 when they should give it for free, possibly gaining a new customer in the meantime. This obviously should not be called a free trial...it should be called a paid trial.

And those who say that $3 is gonna get you an extra 3 days play...whoopidy doo...Many popular MMOs give you 10-30 days free...including d/l.

Tho I don't actually play the game anymore, I was going to send out some of my buddy keys to on-line friends of mine that requested it.  When I mentioned the $3 d/l fee...they said forget it, they didn't feel it was worth it to them to get charged for a free trial.
