On the AOC forum that is.   My brother who's been playing the game since launch hit 80 last week.

Since he hit 80 he found himself bored with the lack of content end game, so he decided to quit the game, not definitively, but for a while, until they add some end game content at least.

He went to the official forum and post a very intelligent post about the reasons why he was leaving and made suggestion what Funcom should do to improve the game.

His post was well written, polite, expressing it's tought about the game.  Well FC ban him from the forum for making a critic about the game.

I played this game about 2 weeks before quitting, my brothers stick to hit for some reasons, i just can't believe a company actiing like that.   To post any cristisism about the game earn you a ban from their forum.  I lost all respect i had for this company.  Maybe communism is accepted in Oslo, but not in the rest of world.

Peace.

Well two option here either the mod didnt have a decent mastery of english ( most of the gms / mods seem to have only basic notions of english) or that post had a touch of rant in it. The mod are getting very tired of players telling them how to do their jobs. What teh point of repostign what has been posted a few thousand times before?

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

I currently post on about 30 different forums around the web, and have been doing the internet BB thing for about 15 years now.  I have never seen such childish moderators as the ones on the AoC forums, even on the teenager forums run by high school kids.

Don't get me wrong, AoC has a good core IMO, but their customer service and censorship changes are ruining everything, from their game down to the forums.  Nobody in their right mind wants to pay someone $15 a month to bait and switch and play controlling mind games.

What would Conan do?  Methinks he would eviscerate Gaute and strangle Famine with his guts, but that's just me.

The thing about AoCs Moderators, is that they are nearly all unpaid volunteers that signed up a few weeks back.

Now, taking that into account, when they selected the players to be Mods they didn't seem to realize that two days before those same players were flaming and trashing the game on there very own forums.

FunCom didn't seem to notice, and now we have power abusing kiddies closing threads, deleting threads and issuing infractions left, right and centre. Alot of threads are being closed for absolutely no reason, when they pertain to real problems with the game and need to be addressed.

Its a gong show over there, I received an infraction because some child reported my signature, I had a brief, politely written statement regarding why performance needed to be top priority in AoC and how I had cancelled because it wasn't top priority.

Nothing vulgar, lude or obscene and I was completely within the Forum CoC, yet I was punished.

Rock a FailCom avatar now and express your disgust with pride!

The truth hurts...

Well, I will say this.  Why walk into their pasture when the wolves are guarding the sheep?

I have five buddy keys and I was stoked about them until two weeks ago.  I can't throw my buddies into this game in good faith, not with the management it has.

the management has managed to drive many players away from AOC as far as i know, so what im guessing is AOC has a large lack of professional management in the forums

Only reason for this Nazi censorship going on is that Funcom dont accept negative replies or threads about there game.

It might have a negative impact on Funcom economics since people learn how bad a game Age of Conan really is. Thats the only reason.

Not it is not. But.. I lived in Norway for some time, but... I hope this is not going to offend any norwegian, since it is not my intention, but.. well.. norwegians have a special mentality, Most  of them are not that open to other views apart the ones they have and as foreigner there, working in and for their behalf, many times i found myself crashing on "stone walls" when trying to explain that certain simple concepts and perspectives while might be valid to norway, are not shared in equal fashion by everyone.

and strangely I worked also in sweden .. and can say that is much more easier to engage in a conversation and exchange of ideias with the swedish .

I've been watching those forums (I love a good train wreck...) and I was struck by the decision to appoint various players as moderators. In fact, it ALWAYS astounds me when a company does this.

A company running a multi-multi-million-dollar enterprise should take pains to make sure that their Public Faces (forum moderators, tech support personnel, etc.) are of the highest quality. They should use letter-perfect English in print and should be able to maintain a top-notch level of professionalism in all circumstances.

I encounter this in my work all the time - more "technically-minded" people (engineers, etc.) tend to have a certain disdain for the more liberal-arts educated. In short, they think writing and communicating are for English-major girls and they find customers to be nuisances.

In gaming, this typically manifests intself on the official forums. Devs think they know how to manage customer communication because they are smart and know the game. When they find out they don't know the first thing about dealing with customers, they either clam up or hire/appoint some intern or a bunch of "community leaders" to do this job for them.

This is a HUGE mistake, but I see it constantly. Any company with an investment of this size, dealing with millions of fickle customers in a highly competitive, highly public, highly-internet-discussed industry is harming themselves immeasurably by delegating the critical duties of communication and customer service to amateurs and fans on power trips.
