http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=200309 The first page is most interesting, he details how well WAR has come along since he last played it, quite encouraging i think! Worth a read! |

I just love that picture in the article, hah
There's no murderous fantasy combat that's not improved by pink flowers.

Good article. I like how he finished it off - "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a contender." Always nice to read some positive feedback |

Well , not really First off , just know that they are not allowed to write negative about the game that is in beta, which is understandable. Yet , from his tone , you can clearly see he was less than pleased with how game was the last time he played , especially with the combat. This time he felt the improvement in many areas - (though not in combat) Even more sad is that he says that game is now good enough to be contender to WOW and LOTRO. That just killed me. WAR is probably the last hope for MMOs (in close future) It is last AA MMO being produced and comming out 2008-9 , we have been waiting for it forever and yet it is merely good enough to contend with WOW and LOTRO ?! I would expect it to blow them out the water , pulverise them , disintegrate them ... That is the least what i expect from WAR , and the article doesnt confirm that

I think the article is pretty good. I'll be sure to quote thoses fines bits to the anoying trolls , kotor lovers and WoW worshipper. From the article: "You can be at the Mount Bloodhorn public quest within a minute or two of starting a new character.<snip> It's a revelation. Forget the usual ten or twenty levels of obligatory solo grind. At the very, very beginning of WAR, you will find yourself taking part in the kind of dramatic, large-scale confrontation usually reserved for mid- and high-level dungeons. You'll find yourself banding together with others to take on boss enemies. Hickman also notes that the decision ( of taking out 4 cities and 4 classes) was taken many months ago, and is very far from being a last-minute fix. Given the extremely solid state of the game in the current beta phase, as we see it at E3, it's easy to believe him. Latter-level content is the only major unknown at this point, but the likelihood that Mythic and EA will leave it to the sort of hairy, down-to-the-wire scramble of Age of Conan's release is next to non-existent. These men mean business, and their game is coming together beautifully. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a contender." |

The average review score for Age of Conan was 89%.
That should tell you all you need to know about these review sites and how much importance you should put on them. Source |

Sure, It doesn't matter what other people say, as we all know how good reviews Conan did get. Still I managed only to stay about 20 levels in that game before I left. This time I will not belive any hype. Maybe time and reality has caught up with MMO-games. They aren't better then this? There will be long threads about how much this game failed to deliver when it comes out, I'm sure, no matter how good "you" think it is. |

To Lobotomist: A bit off topic but Aion seems to be a good game coming 2008-9 as well.
To Saurus930 : Mainstream has caught up with MMOs, nothing else. |

This is where you are talking bullshit...Where in the reveiw did he say that WAR is a contender to WOW/LOTRO? You mean this line "Warhammer Online can already confidently stand alongside WOW and LOTRO in an MMO beauty pageant, and impress the judges with its grace and deportment". He is talking about "Graphics" where you are implying that he is talking about the actual game? He then goes on to say WAR will be a contender? he does not mention any specific game other than it will be a contender..which it will. Some people like to make it up as they go along. All in all it`s a positive review and many people will see that as well.

It's true, but hard to sell even the best game without the hype. Look at WoW - reason that this game sold so well was Blizzard name. Game needs to be known to sell well. Will WAR stand for it's hype? We will see after release. |

He then goes on to say WAR will be a contender? he does not mention any specific game other than it will be a contender..which it will. 'Contender' comes from boxing terminology. It means that you are a contender for the title(s). That means that you are in line to challenge the champion (this would be WoW) for the title. When he says 'We have a contender', he means that we have a game that could conceivably unseat WoW. Most contenders don't win the title, but some do, and sometimes you even have a Buster Douglas. |

Originally posted by grimfall You are repeating what i have said? Please show me where, like you put he says "WAR is a contenter to WOW/LOTRO" you cant because he does not say that.. You are assuming he means WOW when in fact it could be any game out they`re. |

Hmm... 'Contender' in this usage by definition means 'contender for the title'. WoW has the title. WAR will be a contender for WoW's title, according to this previewer. Where do you get lost?

So if that is not fun , everything else falls into the water"
For WAR to find itself 3 month away from release , with combat that is still un-fun. It is concerning to me. Because i am planning to play it.

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG. |

What makes you think the combat is not fun? |

I concur. Whether you PVP or PVE combat has to be fun and if it isn't then the urge to keep playing simply isn't there. |

I really don't get the whole "combat needs to be fixed" thing. Currently in closed beta, I do not even come close to sharing the same opinion. |

Combat Is something you do alot in an MMO but at the same time Its a very small thing that doesnt take much time to fix up. That comes down to just fixing animations to make the game feel fast paced, right now we dont even know why he felt the combat was needy or how the combat works at all. We dont know how good or bad It is just by him saying It needs something for all we know he could have just got off his AoC account and after feeling that to him it could feel like a downer, Its his personal feel of the combat he feels It needs work but we really dont know until weve tried it ourselves and how It feels to us. |
