WAR is coming..

On the main site, under the Armies of WAR section, Greenskins have the Choppa removed, Empire has the Knight removed, and the Dwarfs have the Hammerer removed. Not sure if anyone else noticed yet.

Waiting on: WAR and AoC.
Playing: None.
Retired: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW, Tabula Rasa, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Lord of the Rings Online, and Vanguard.

I maintain that I'm sure they made good cuts.

These guys know game design and they know what they're doing; they said "Hey, these just aren't as much fun to play as the others, fuck 'em, let's fire this game up with only the really good stuff in place."  If that's what their beta guys and their design team went with, I'm all right with that; I'm totally for cutting unbalanced or un-fun classes out right at the get-go rather than letting them limp along, useless, once they're in retail.

Also, from what I hear of the big cities, four being cut out and put in later on is actually a good idea as well.  It seems as though they're trying to really make their stuff work and work well rather than spending huge amounts of time and effort on making more, but not better.  How many MMOs are there out there, Korean or otherwise, wherein all the cities have one big generally-linear path from end to end?  WAR doesn't sound like it's going to have that, at least not -quite- so obviously, and I think that's fantastic.  Being able to do things differently depending on who you are and where your interests lie is something that takes huge amounts of time, but could be very, very rewarding.

At any rate, I think they've made the right choice; cut content and add it later (the art's done, after all!) so that the content writers and designers can put out a really, truly polished experience.  Would you rather have six capitols with one line of questing through each and no real interactivity, or two bustling metropolitan hubs with changing quests, shifting landscapes, and actual interaction between them and their playerbase?

Cutting content is never a good thing but some good PR can make you beleave that it is the best thing that could happen.

I haven't read much of the PR.  But would you rather have six shitty, lukewarm McDonald's pancakes or two really good homemade fresh ones?

I don't give a shit if you like pancakes or not, the point stands.  Cutting shitty, boring content is not only good, it's fantastic.  And they're doing it before people even KNOW it's shitty and boring, except that they've said "Eh, it sucked, we cut it".  Bad content takes the same amount of time and effort to make as good content, when it comes right down to it (you think it was easier to make Thunder Bluff than Stormwind?  Okay, maybe SW took a bit more time, but the fact remains, they're both Goddamn Herculean undertakings), and spending all your time adding to content that's not ready to go into a game is a shitty idea, while focusing on the things you're doing well at and you want to make better while tossing the other stuff on the back burner can do both your current content -and- your ongoing content a world of good.

It's a question of where their effort is going, and it's nice to know they recognize they -can- make shit that isn't up to snuff.

Maybe Mythic should cut the whole game then since it could be shitty and boring.

I just read the OP's topic as: "Looks like the Carebear Cuts are confirmed"

I must suffer from dyslexia or something.

Moderation should be done in moderation.

Communists.

Cuts are never good, and I highly doubt the PR campaign is as effective as you claim.  Your posts, along with the hundreds of others proclaiming more of the same, is evidence of this.

I'd rather have it all in, but not at the cost of broken classes or cities.  Of course a delay could possibly fix all of this, but that isn't likely.  So a cut seems like the only alternative at this point, remember I covered another delay or releasing broken content.  Read before you complain further.

Dude they've been confirmed since the moment it came out of Mark Jacob's mouth where've you been?

*doesn't comment on the rest of the posts since Amalaric  is obviously pissed of their precious age of Failnan didnt' have the guts to hold back or remove sub par content and released like shit*

In MMOS...Cuts Are good  just look at WoW (hates you all for making me say it) they cut things and the game turned out fine for the audience it was built for. (they fubar'd pvp yes but PvP was never part of the original design).

That basically sums up the entire issue.

Cutting content ALONE is never a good thing, yes.  However, if Mythic are to be believed, then cutting content to concentrate on polishing other content can and might be a good thing.

I believe Mythic can be trusted for 2 simple reasons:

1) DAoC

2) An open beta phase

Can any nay-sayer offer any good reasons why we should not trust what Mythic have to say?  Obviously, PR tries to put things in the best possible light, but that doesn't necessarily mean all PR is lies.

Just another reason why people need to at least wait for the NDA to be lifted. Nobody right now knows how good or bad the games is.

The only people who are knocking the game right now are the ones that are afraid their player base form their game will go down.

Or people who are trying to set such high standards for a new MMO that they don't need to even look at the game because they will never be satisfied yet come on here and bash a game they have not played for 1 minute. Namely people like Amalaric who already stated he won't play the game till ALL Warhammer races are fully implemented. Considering each race will have a capital city thats fully raidable with boss instances and the fact each race will have their own unique classes, this is just not possible all in one launch.   Yet he feels compelled to come on here and bash the game over and over with no evidence.
