The outfit, with pistol and sword look a lot like the REH character of Solomon Kane. I know next to nothing about this game which is why I'm asking. If anyone is familiar with the Solomon Kane stories and the Witch Hunter is there a close comparison? I have yet to read any Solomon Kane stories. I ordered a book today on Solomon Kane after finishing a book about REH. This game is looking pretty good the more I read up on it.

The witchhunter is like a cleric from the spanish inquisition, you find the evil, interogate it, then execute with extreme prejudice. Never heard of solomon kane but still this is the best explaination i can give :) |

Its like Van Helsing. The character played by Hugh Jackman to me. He is a monster hunter from vampires, werewolves, and anythiong else thats a monster. Thats who it reminded me of as soon as I saw a screen of witch hunter. |

Yeah, I've read Solomon Kane comics as a kid (Marvel I believe) and that's pretty much it... Witch Hunter is modeled quite a bit on protestant witch hunter fanatics from the 17th century... This isn't surprising since the Empire from Warhammer is almost completely based on The Holy Roman Empire (basically Germany) from the reformation wars in 16-hundreds... which is incidentally the time and space Solomon Kane operates in. Cheers! |

Although the Holy Roman Empire was Catholic so i guess the Witch Hunter is more based on Catholic Inquisitors. The Van Helsing comparison is good, they look very similar. |

Well... yeah and no.. Warhammer IP is a mishmash of all kinds of cultural and historical references. Though Empire is very catholic-like, witchhunters are definitely modeled on protestant fanatics which operated individually in those days completely unlike the Inquisition which was an incredibly bureocratic and ponderous organization. Inquisitors wore priestly habits and cowls rather than buckled leather pointy hats and long hair underneath... As for Van Helsing... I suppose you're referring to the movie? Imo it should have been called "Solomon Kane" because that's what it is. The original Van Helsing is a crusty old professor with a weird sense of humor... though you can forgive Alan Moore absolutely anything, being a fantastic writer that he is. |

Interesting to see a reference to Solomon Kane on the WAR boards, with all the WAR vs AoC stuff going down these days.
Solomon Kane was created by Robert E Howard (of Conan fame). The books are amazing, as are his stories about Conan. Forget about the Governator's Conan movies, the books are far superior and gives a totally different perspective on him.
Also, I'd suggest checking out Bran Mak Morn: The Last King. (also by robert E howard). |
