The game wouldn't be doing half as bad if funcom was just honest with the situation.  I'm dead serious man...

people like me would of been loyal and would have remained loyal to a game going thru rough times if they'd tell the truth and ease our concerns.

So true. When the developers (think NCSoft here) communicate with the player base on a regular basis, its amazing how understanding people will be.

Take for example the female attack speed bug. Had a lead dev taken the 5 minutes of his day to simply make a post explaining in simple terms what they thought the cause was, and how they are trying to go about fixing it, they would have gotten tons of cred from the players. Were I a dev trying to make a successful game, I would once a week make a dev blog, and come back now and then to answer questions, ignoring the haters.

The silence from FC was one of the major contributors to AoC's failier.

Regarding the female attack speed bug Funcom have stated that they are aware of it and are working on it, but it takes time to fix it. It is not just a matter of changing a number.

Funcom do communicate to their player base, regularly! Seriously people, there is so much untrue crap going about on these forums its beyond belief. Infact i would go as far to say there is way more communication from funcom than ANY mmo i have played.

I seriously need to find some mmo boards that have a mature, construcive and HONEST outlook on games, according to these forums (not just this game) nobody should be playing any games.

Ok artemis i dont know how you can be so blind, you dont need to see xfire number ( which dont mean anything other than some nerds have too much time on their hands) to see that there are a LOT of people leaing the game, countless guild have gone inactive, all the people I know stopped playing it and see more and more people i talk to in other games tell me they just quit aoc. I understad that you are a fanboy till death.

You say that aoc has a mature audience, but mature people are not the biggest part of this game. A LOT of teens/ preteens play it because of the boobs/hype.

Anyway gl defending aoc, the troll army is very strong and aoc is their main target atm.

I do agree that war is going to get hit very hard when it come out, but it probably have less bugs.

I understand that you cant stand to see the game you love so much getting bashed, but thekind of posts you make can only incite trolls to flame everything up. Saying that funcom is the best communication wise is like saying that being a journalist is a sefe job in china. sure alk in the light and be praised, but say something is wrong and bang/ban

Aoc's forums are a battleground because many people are pissed, many of the non hyper forums at mmorpg are pretty clean.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

The occassional patch note or one sentence"conversation" before closing a thread is NOT the type of communication people are looking for.

If everything is on the up and up, then why are the deleting complaint posts on their forums?

They ran out of cheese to go with people's whine.

It's partly beause their community managers are idiots and mostly because many of the people complaining, and their detractors, are behaving like idiots. You don't accomplish much by getting adversarial with the developers and calling them names. Any reasonable discussion is buried under hater crap and fanboi counter crap. If people won't, or cant, communicate in a constructive manner you get a madhouse. There's no great conspiracy to hide the problems. Everone knows there are problems.

Even sandboxes have fundamental rules such as; "Don't eat the cat poop, you'll die."

Forums Are For Discussion. Let us discuss productively and respectfully!

"A special thanks to Brian for the graph"

Funcom stock peaked at $54 a share on may 21st, it closed at $22.60 on fri. so basically the company is worth 1/2 what it was when they released aoc. for a comparison 1 yr ago funcom was worth $37.10 a share.

A publicly held companies mission is to increase the value for its shareholders (within the bounds of the laws). AoC has resulted in a loss for funcom shareholders. Up to this point no other conclusion can be drawn except that it is a failure. Of course they could turn things around but i wouldnt bet on it (If i thought there was any chance of this I would buy Funcom stock).

"It is a mistake to bow to the wishes of munchkins who whine." - E. Gary Gygax

This kind of survey was also done in the Beta phases of AoC and it was done by the same company as far as I can remember. Actually all that this company does, is allowing their system to be used by other companies to conduct surveys. This kind of service is provided by a lot of companies and, as an example, the company where I work has used this kind of service for worldwide surveys and its detailed analysis because for us it whould have been to work intensive and complicated to organize it.

That being said I cannot really see a connection between those surveys and the general health of the company behind AoC. At least not in this specific matter.

As a matter of fact I think it is a positive thing that a company tries to get an understanding about what specific features people like and which parts of the game are not popular. If you want to know what players think about your game you go out and ask them directly. It is the best feedback you can get. Getting an opinion from a forum will not give you a representative result because only a fraction of the playerbase will use the forum frequently enough, if at all.

Cheers

Jupp
