Existence is random!

I haven't seen any of these invisible players myself (pun intended), but when I logged in on the 19th there was a notice that an emergency patch had been applied to rectify a problem with invisible characters & exploits based on the previous combo move changes. I play on the Euro-Servers, but I am assuming that the USA servers had exactly the same emergency fix.

Whilst I wouldn't try to defend Funcom for making such appalling mistakes in Thursday's patch, unless you are claiming that the issues are still there, they did at least rectify them quickly & maybe the thread title should be changed to "Patch 17/7 temporarily made the game unplayable".

Even though I still generally support the game, I do agree that Thursday's patch was a spectacularly bad PR move. Whilst proper testing should easily have identified the invisibility bug, anticipating the potential combo move exploits only required a bit of basic common sense. Very depressing.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

I may have missed it, but I didn't see mention of the way they botched the attack speed issue with this patch.

Everyone was hoping and assuming that the problem with the slower female attack speed would be fixed by speeding them up. Now, it seems, they have decided it'as easier to slow down the attack speed for males to match the females!

It's funny to see people, many of whom possibly belittled the issue the female toons were facing, emoting that the game experience is now ruined for them with the slow attack speed. Well, that's the way it's been for female avatars from the start!

The bigger issue is the obvious fact that the entire combat timing and animation system for the game is completely haywire and not even worthy of an early beta. All the warts to the system are starting to be more obvious.

Can you believe that attack speeds for both genders have always been highly inconsistent when comparing one combo or swing direction to another? There never has been any standardization at all. DPS can vary widely depending on whether or not your attacks and combos happen to be ones with overly slow animation times!

These aren't bugs either, but rather the result of a complete disregard for standardizing to acceptable tolerances, due to the decision to rush to market.

Usually, there is a timing mechanism built into a game like this so that animation times are adjusted on the fly to ensure that some swings aren't arbitrarily too fast or too slow. Or, at the very least, the animations are standardized during production.

Not only did the game launch missing tons of features and seriously lacking content, but core systems and code for the game are really at alpha levels of quality.

Smoke and mirrors obfuscated the depth of the game's flaws early on, but the smoke machines are dead and the mirrors lay broken amidst all the lies Funcom has tossed around like hand grenades.

It's now looking like this may be one of the most premature launches of an AAA title ever. It's at least as bad as Vanguard and may even be on par with some of the most premature launches we've seen in AA titles.

It's not just lack of content and serious bugs, it's also the very core elements of the game engine and design that are completely lacking.

The game looks pretty, but I'm sure the mess of code it runs on would have developers at other studios ROTFL!

LOL! Well it's nice to see more then a month later they still breaking more things then fixing.

I cancelled over a month ago, because they killed the game for me with the early june patch already (constant freezes, DC's and CTD's).

I think they only test on the XBOX360 atm, so they can launch the game on that console to pull as much money from those suckers too.

No I lost all faith with Funcom a while ago already. Being glad I canceled before the first 30days were out.

And then the idea that behind the screens they are working on ANOTHER MMO  Maybe they should put ALL their resources on this MMO and FIX this game first, before they even think about making ANOTHER one

UPDATE: To add some more spice on the disaster company. Read this WHAHAHA:

They really lost any sense of reality there over at Funcom HQ

Many thanks to the AOC game director, who wrote such an inspiring letter to the players that I couldn't resist stealing a paragraph for this episode.

One of my favorit web comics made a joke about it.

Perhaps not created for but inspired by Ellingen's recent player letter. He is giving baghdad Bob a run for his money :)
