''Hey now!'' - the immortal, cheesy catch-phrase of Hank Kingsly from The Larry Sanders Show.

I am a bit hestitant at writing this thread, in case it is misconstrued.  So I shall try and explain what I mean.

First off, I play, and enjoy both games.  I go through periods when I enjoy one more so than the other.  At the moment, I am enjoying LotrO more, but I am sure when I delve deeper into Outland, I WoW will be my number one for some time.  (At the moment I am in Zangermarsh - and I don't really like the place).

Anyway, the thing I enjoy about Lord of the Rings, is the very in-depth story system.  I love the feeling of immersion the game gives, and also that I can play for several hours a day, and still get somewhere.  I do not see any grind, and instead of rushing to get to level cap, I simply play the game to enjoy the story.

Now, I think TBC did a lot to implement more story-lines into the game world.  I have yet to discover a lot of the places, but from what I have seen, I have liked.

Wrath of the Lich King is going to be much more story based.  Possibly inspired by LotrO, and I think that this is going to greatly improve, and make the game more enjoyable.  There are other similarities too, with the new acheivement system, that resembles the deeds in Lord.

Now I realise that many people, especially those of a more hadrcore nature, may shirk this.  Howvever, I am really excited about Wrath to see how well these story-lines will be introduced, and how immersive they will be.

Of course Mines of Moria is the one expansion I am most excited about. as it is trying something totaly new.

Anyway, for players who enjoy plot and story in their games, I think that this is a good move by Blizzard.

I understand raiders and such may not be so inclined to agree, but I think Blizzard will still add content for the hardcore players.

Does anyone know when these expansions are due out?

P.S. Before anyone flames me claiming Lor to be a WoW -clone, I am not saying that WoW is copying Lor, but merely being inspired by some of its gameplay.  I think that both games are so successful as they are learning from each other.

Any thread about WoW is bound to derail, so, i understand your hesitation

I love Zangarmarsh, as a map. All the shoorms are pweety.

Hmm... But you saying a game will have more story, because other game has story... does not make mutch sense.

When i saw this thread, i thought you were gonna talk about the new Achievemnt System in WoW, that is a clear "ripoff" of the LOTRO. And i would say yes, it is.

But, you will read a million times from fanbois that it was originaly made in WoW, and was copyed around after

I did mention the achievement system, as it was that which prompted me to make the similarity with both games, as well as Wrath being more story based, like LotRo.   I don't understand how WoW had this system before Lor, and if they did, why then would they be introducing it with Wrath with an initial 500 achievements, or 'deeds' as they are called in Lor.

i would say the attempt of wow with the achievement, rvr zone, and the rest (minus the heroe class) is an attempt by blizzard not to loose many accounts to WAR..so hence it is copying it in a light version

Even a broken watch is right twice a day.

They have both ripped off the achievement system from EQ2 anyhow.I liked both games but prefered Lotro for immersion /story :)

Edit : I dare say EQ2 ripped it off from somewhere else too , thats the MMO way apparently

If we're going to say WoW's upcoming acheivment system is "ripping off" this game or that, lets start by saying that the achievements will have little to no bearing on how your character performs.  It will be just a little side thing to do for people who like to do collect badges and that sort of thing.  If anything, it sounds similar to badges in swg, a game that came out way before LotRO or EQ2.  You got a badge for visiting certain places, mastering certain professions and things like that.  This sounds pretty similar to what WoW will be doing.

Nice attempts at flaming WoW over "ripping off" other games, but you all fail.

I did mention , that what you say was likely to be the case.

MMORPG are becoming so much like real worlds that I didn't realise Zangermarsh was a virtual zone.

I was thinking about Germany or Austria.
