Apparently they left because of the bugs ....(which is complete BS)

"It's not clear how large a drop in subscriptions resulted from the NGE, but it was large. First in drips and drabs, and then in increasing waves of departures as a cascade failure hit the social fabric of the game. Ironically, the real problem was almost certainly not the changes themselves. As a player of the game today can tell you, the title is almost certainly better off for the firestorm of change that the NGE introduced. Players began to leave not because of the changes themselves but because of the enormous pile of bugs and inconsistencies they introduced."

Just ignore that Michael Zenke character's posts.  He puts his personal moronic spin on everything he writes, we're better off not wasting any more time on it.

weird I never seen so many people comment on an article at Massively before and of course the article is very unpopular and is getting flammed by 95% of the posters

why do humans build, because it isn''t there

changing skill gain is enough to get some percentage of the pop to quit...  changing the game who knows.

I didn't leave because of the NGE. Honestly, the game/combat system needed an overhaul. It was a mess regardless of how much fanboy juice you spray on it.

The game was great, but it felt like everything was half-assed so to speak. That's SOE's trademark.... rush out a half-baked product and hope it sells enough to profit before it plunders.

I left soon after the Jedi Revamp.  The thought of having to wait 8 week intervals for the different village phases - bleh.  Before the village, my main was a bounty hunter.  Trying to hunt Jedi was a nightmare.  The darn seeker droids never worked.   NPC marks spawned inside of trees and walls, if they spawned at all.  I used to get so ticked off spending all that time, credits, and effort finding a mark to find it bugged it some way.

"...and with that cryptic comment, I'm off to bed!"

People didn't leave because of the NGE as they were gonna leave anyways, just the NGE wasn't the game saving patch, it just made it worse. I remember people leaving the game and bitching on the forums throughout the games history and people will tell you pre cu owned but it was broken and needed fixing. Problem is SOE and LA didn't fix what was wrong with the game but just made more problems so the NGE was really just a final nail in the coffin.

But yes the main reason people left SWG was because there was no content and a shit load of bugs, I remember tons of people saying that JTLS is what will keep them playing the game, then it turned out to be shit and lots of my in game friends left. It was one shit thing after the other with SWG and because the CU and NGE were big news they got all of the blame but really the game just never got fixed and just slowly got worse from launch.

For me Jedi was the start of the downfall, I thought they ruined the game and the balance.

Talking about SWG much?

That's a perfectly legit reason.  Its why so many people were quitting even before the CU.  The problem is that they never focused on those issues, they kept slapping patches on it while trying to make something "better," first with the CURB, then the rushed CU, and then the craptastic NGE.  The old game definitely had its problems, however I would have it back in a heartbeat.  That doesn't mean it didn't need some work.

On the Massively article my favorite comment so far is from Kylrathin, "Saying that the bugs made everyone quit SWG is like saying seasickness made everyone want to get off the Titanic."  ROFL

the CURB was never released. It was barely even beta tested, then they deleted the CURB and replaced it with the CU in the patching progress of the beta.

As a person who played before pub 9 until NGE, that quote is a load of bullox!

If only they had listened to their playerbase and reverted the changes, they woud've got players coming back regardless of the bugs.
