Howdy folks,

I've been looking around at other MMO's to play as of late, but nothign really suits what I am looking for. It's been a year and a half since I left World of Warcraft, and, to this day, I still hold a love - hate relationship with it.

I hated the need to raid to get somewhere and hold a chance. I got sick of the monotomous PvP and lack of diversity amongst it, as well as the lack of cooperation. The grind was possibly the worst of all.

However, I loved the art style, the events that got organised within my guild (we had little games, ie. two 70s escorting a level 1 around parts of the world, if they survived they got a prize.), not all of the dungeons were absolute crap either, some were rich in lore and held my interest.

I'm looking at Warhammer Online as a possibility, however WoW is already established and has a deep community. I've come and gone back to the game around 2 -3 times now, whether it be a friends call, boredom, or a desire to play something different. When I last left I deleted all characters on my account to remove any possible temptation. But I hear that leveling from 1 - 60 has been increased, new mounts are on the way and so on.

Is it worth coming back, even as a casual attempt?

Always.

Don't forget to level in the new proudmoore's territory.

I am a slow leveler: 1 to 50 is 6 days playing time now (144 hours). Take a recommended server: masses of new characters  there.

Changes:

Endgame : choice of dozens of Daily quests in evey aspect of the game (Dungeons, solo, BG's, open world PvP, professions, ...). No longer you need to raid to get very nice gear. Hop in and game for 1 hour.

WotlK will get you fighter-bombers-mounted tank combat and Siege artillery.

Best: choice of doing 10 men or 25 men raid in every raid instance.

I don't know what you are expecting, but it's still the same game, with minor tweaks.

-shorter grind

-more options to get gear

-mounts at lvl30

-heroic dungeons for badges for epix

-shitload of factions to grind reputations but it's a casual friendly grind, anyone can grind it out just by doing quest and a dungeon run or 2

etc etc

If you had fun before, you'll have fun again, it's just that kind of game, but the things you hated are also still there and there was no  miracle patch fixing everything you didn't like. PVP is still what you remember but now you can get epix from casualy PVPing and doing dailys, you can get realy hardcore and do arenas..., profesions still have BoP items and you still can't drop an item you are loting before it's in your bag, so you have to destroy something from your bag first if you are overburdened but want to skin that kitty.

As all the above already said, nowadays WoW is a much better game for casual players.

Plus… you could ask Bliz to un-delete your characters

I stopped playing half an year ago cause all the waiting was boring as hell. But i may play again for some time after WoTLK launches, cause everyone will pile up at Northrend and there will be lots of world PvP, epic chats in General, it will be easy to find a group for the dungeons.  Also there will be awesome new skills, knockback effects etc. It will be WoW at it's fullest. But after 6 months everyone will be hanging at Ironforge again all day cursing each other in Trade and waiting in LFG for hours.

Seriously, the game sucks big time when you level if you miss the first months after an expansion. It's like a friggin desert. I  regularly see 2-3 people questing in the zone i am on a high pop server. Everyone else is grinding instances, or jumping around in Shattrath/Ironforge/Orgrimmar.

@ OP: Just join for the first few months after WoTLK when there will be new exciting imba stuff, and stop wasting your time when the game reduces to a lonely grindfest again.

Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
all for me beer and tobacco!

Wrath of the CowBell King

Well let me just say this.  There are two games that I've kept coming back to in my MMO history.

Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.

Both I see as the best MMO's in the market.

WoW will always be good for a casual person, especially me.  I hope you do come back, it has such a detailed world.  Fun art style too, like you stated.

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated.

I'll probably come back and start a-fresh later in the year, as I've weighed up my options and it isn't really viable for me to start playing regardless of being casual or not. Cheers for the info!

Once you reach endgame it gets boring fast unless you like PvE and grinding lot I guess.  WOTLK probably will make all obtainable loot obsolete anyways just as TBC did and reset the item slate.

It's going to be funny when hours and hours of grinded loot is replaced within 2 weeks again , so you're probably better off waiting and be you'll be on par with most of the raiders after WOTLK.
