The thing you need to Remember---The goal of a company that is doing an MMO or any game for that matter is to make money!!!
The goal behind an MMO is to get that MMO to make as much money as possible, and run as long as it can. The good thing about this MMO is it has a name that stands out for Both MMO players and Star Wars fans that play star war’s games----You guess it “Star Wars”. So getting a Player base will be easy. Without even announcing how the game play will be.(AKA search for New Star Wars MMO and Holy Crap this game is so hot right now you would think it was coming out this year.) Back to my point-------
MMO Goal is to run as long as possible so you get your money back---and start making even more money every month. So having Jedi as a Starting profession I just don’t think it will give the MMO—that Staying power that it needs……
However, I am not saying take Jedi out of the game, But daggle it in front of the Paying customer—“Can you become a Jedi, and if you do what side will you pick?” ---That is given the “Paying Customer” a chance to become something they want. Which means they Have to pay longer to get to that goal (Meaning the company gets to take more of your money—AKA their goal) While making it very hard to become a Jedi Master or Sith=more time which =more money you will spend=more money for the company.
You need to give a customer a reason to Play—Like I said above putting Star Wars in the title will give a crap load of people a reason to play—but you also need a catch that will give that MMO staying power? All games/MMO have little catch Phrases that gets people interested---But for an MMO you need a catch phrase that gives people a reason to play and a reason for you to pay for a long time(so the company can make more money) This makes me want to play much more than if Jedi are just handed to you!!!
My catch Phrases if there are no Jedi at the start of the game.
“What side will you choose—Sith or the Rebublic?”
“What profession will you choose, a Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Swordsman Or will you find your path to become a Jedi?”
“If you find the force and become a Jedi will you fall to the Dark side or stay in the light?”
“Choose your destiny----Does your Destiny lead you to becoming a Jedi?”
Here is a few if Jedi where playable from the Beginning
“Play as a Jedi”(Don’t get me wrong this will get lots of people---however, how long will a person play the game?)
“Visit amazing star wars worlds”
My 2 cents… I would love to hear yours…….
I am a star wars fan boy.. And I hope that this MMO exceeds my expectations and kills WOW.
I would like to here your side.....Its fun to talk about!! |

It will probably be like the others and you can train to become Jedi. |

Jedi and Sith are perfectly viable in the KOTOR universe. They do not belong in SWG, but in KOTOR there is no problem. |

This is based off the KOTOR game, we can almost be 100% sure of it and if you don't think there will be or should be jedi, you haven't been playing any star warsy game sense they were made. Everyone (well at least 98%) of the population that plays any starwars game want's to be a jedi or sith. Why? Because that is really what starwars to many folks is all about. I see your points, but it will never happen, it did in swg and you see the aftermath of introducing the jedi, no one was playing the game, they were grinding for jedi. Nuff said.
Edit: I should note that the timeline is perfect for jedi/sith, there were a ton of them, so it's pretty much 100% they are in. |

Unfortunately for you, Jedi - Sith is almost certainly going to be a starting profession in the New MMO given the historical timeframe. I can see a starting character as a padawan, moving on to become a Sentinel, Guardian or consular before moving on to advanced level as in Kotor 2. I hope that the manage the light side/dark side to the point where Jedi / Sith Players have to think about the ramifications of their actions. I also don't think they will be godly compared with other classes. The Hutts, Mandalorians, Merc. Sith Trooper and Republic troopers are all practiced at fighting Jedi and Sith at this time. This will allow the Dev's to balance the game. |

This thread is waste of time. Let me say this, whose IP is it and who is involved with the development of the game? Yep, Lucas Arts. And who complained to SOE that it was too hard to be a Jedi in SWG? Yep, Lucas Arts. So you can bet your bottom dollar that Jedi will be quite common in Kotor most probably as a starting profession. |

In kotr, you are like getting jumped by hordes of mandalorians (never 1v1) and hordes of other 'normal' classes (at least so far havent beaten it yet)
So everyone at some point should become a Jedi. So you have your Jedi class and the base class just like KOTR But to be clear- they can start me out as a Padawan if they want. I dont care as long as I can become a Jedi.

I certainly hope that this is the way they plan on doing it. I agree that to start you off with the option of Jedi or Sith would be a huge missed opportunity... |

I think it goes with out saying that a game set in the Old Republic will include both Jedi and Sith right away. There is no lore-based justification for grinding a character to becoming a Jedi - it makes absolutely no sense in terms of the univerise, especially in the sense of how Jedi originate. The challenge, I think, is not to make playing a Jedi difficult to attain, but rather to make the other professions just as interesting and compelling to play.... |

and forget starting out as light / dark. You start out as neutral (alignment) like most all bioware titles. Roleplay should be making decisions dynamically not clicking on a little button and say "hey I want to be Evil sith ftw!". |
