As many of you know, the original kotor series draws the vast majority of its rules and game mechanic concepts from the tabletop edition of star wars.

Everquest, wow, and all other mmos have drawn many of thier ideas from table top games.

With the recent release of 4th edition D&D as well as a revamped star wars table top game It is my opinion that you will find many of the tabletop concepts in this new mystery mmo.

So if your curious as to what to expect in the next big star wars mmo, check out the new star wars pen and paper game or even the 4th ed D&D.

I am predicting that those games will heavily influence this next mmo.

The Bioware MMO's been in development longer than 4th ed so I seriously doubt it.

lol.... I don't even know where to begin replying to the OP.  When I read what he wrote, first thing that came to mind - "I seriously doubt it."

To the OP:

Look man... D&D already has a game out.  It's called Dungeons & Dragons Online, otherwise known as DDO.  And if you ask people what they think of it... they will tell you that it more or less has nothing whatsoever to do with D&D other than name.

I can more or less guarantee you that the new SW MMO will have nothing whatsoever to do with the D&D ruleset of any incarnation.  I would say if anything, it would have a lot more similarities to Jade Empire and Mass Effect, but will probably be something completely different altogether.  I tell you this so you won't get your hopes built up.

I agree, i don't really like 4e but, it'll be d20. i guess some people here are too young to know where the term rpg comes from. The basis for all mmo's comes from dnd.

Oh, I had no idea that the OP was talking about D&D....I seriously doubt that would be the case.  I initially thought the OP was refering to some SW RPG.

Anyway, I think the game would have more to do with KOTOR and SWG.  There are devs from both games working on this one.  I am familiar with SWG but not with KOTOR.

So, in KOTOR can you specialize?  Could you focus on melee and and use the force only for jealing or buffing?

I would love to make a melee based character that relies on the force to heal and for utility like force cloak or enhanced running.  However, I prefer to use mundane melee weapons for combat.

In SWG I was a melee stacker but with the "village" I gave up much of my template to incorporate force powers, but not lightsaber junk.

I hope I can do that in this game....it can only happen if it is skill based.

kotor was a d20 ruleset with multiclassing, basically you could specialize in ranged and melee but not like swords/ pike you would specialize in all and take feats for melee that would give bonuses to your attack and damage rolls. what the deal is you roll a toon with certain stats like strength, constitution, dexterity, wisdom, charisma, intelligence... certain stats would give bonuses to certain feats..and powers, and yes you can spec in melee and use powers for buffs.

if you want to use a 1 hander you have to take feats, same if you want to duel wield or use a pike counts as 2 handed so you take feats, skills are different in d20 you put skill points into things like stealth and jump and swim, open lock and such..

I think some of the people in this thread have utterly no clue that KoTOR as well as many of Bioware's most successful games are based on D&D. And I laugh.

Fanboi is not a word, it is just bad grammar.

What do we win if you are wrong?

man, every mmo has dnd in it. just cause the numbers are bigger doesn't mean anything. where do you think you get fire, acid, cold.... resists from. and all those other crazy stats? like strength, stamina, dexterity.. so on. change the words around and make it 3000 instead of 10, it's still all dnd.
