I work in games industry myself. If I were asked to give my opinion on a candidate and I see they have writing experience for a site that would count. Game developers value passion above all else. We tend to work crazy hours. If you don;t have the passion, then you probably won't last long
Writing experience helps towards acquiring game designer positions. the only danger is that if your views is too different from what the company is seeking |

This is true. I am a small business owner in an industry completely unrelated to gaming. When they first opened the Blog section of this site, I decided to start ranting as an old time MMO'er because I have a real passion for these games. My silly rants combined have over 5000 views, and I have received PM's from a Dev or two back in the day giving me props and asking me my take on certain things. While I don't intend or plan to persue a career in MMO's as fun as it would be, this site gets a fair amount of traffic, and acts as a way to feel the pulse of today's MMO gamer towards various games and the genre. |

I know I seemed pretty harsh, and I will add that I was referring to unpaid positions. I know that doesn't soften it much, but there you go. The gaming industry has infamously low editorial standards, and they seem to be getting lower all the time; this is not something I can ignore. However, if I were running a PR firm or an ad agency, I imagine I would LOVE to hire anyone associated with this site. This is not sarcasm or exaggeration. I guess it all depends on the sort of writing you want to do. |

I'd also like to add this... No amount of experience as a writer is going to make a difference if you're not a good writer. Good writers with experience, even if it's writing for free, is still a LOT better than a good writer with no experience. The writing/publishing/gaming industry is a very difficult one to break into. You have to start somewhere, so why not start with a reputable site? |
