I would say they can't co-exist. I'm convinced in the year the new MMO comes out, the SW licence expires for SOE. Let the poor SWG die, put it out of it's misery. |

Oh, I think that's given - I think we can expect a SOE announcement that Classic SWG servers will be opening within three months. |

My bet will be that it will. $OE will be looking for ANY reason to try and convince LA that the licence is in "good hands". $OE has GOT to know now, that they have NO prospective new players out there anymore. All of their added content, watered down new (old) systems, combat re-vamps have been aimed right at pre-CU/CU vets, not new players or even their existing playerbase. The new producer hinted at something "big" in the near future. I know for a FACT that $OE had CU up on their internal servers, once before, thinking about a classic server, as I was told that very specificly from Lorin Jameson, himself. Even $OE Austin should have figured out, by now, that the only way to increase subs is classic servers. That's the only shot they have to survive the launch of a new Star Wars MMO. OK, really 2 shots, slim and none. But I still think they'll try it. But......., it will definatley be CU, not pre-CU. |

It would make sense if they did. But this is $OE we're dealing with. Making sense is usually not too high on their "to do" list.

This is a post I wrote about a month ago.
"....While what you say does make sense and certainly fits SE's corporate personality - an equal mix of arrogance, obstinacy and stupidity. However, bearing in mind its past record, what is likely to happen is the following; "Bioware and LA introduce their new MMO. "On that day that happens, SOE announces that now, only now, has it 'listened to our loyal player base' and will relaunch Classic SWG Servers. "These will run alongside the NGE servers. "Neither versions of the game will have any Developers or CSRs assigned to them. Only when people have finally ground all 36 professions again will SOE reveal that it also did not implement Jedi in the newly restored Classic Servers. "Poor service, huge bugs, really poor financial administration of subs will soon cause the final exodus from both types of server. "Then, in one final last mad throw of the dice, when there are less than 1000 players in total, ie. less than Matrix Online, will SOE announce a merge of both different games into one server. They will poll the remaining players and ask whether the remaining server should be 'Classic' or 'NGE'. The players will overwhelmingly vote for 'Classic'. SOE will then announce that the server will be 'NGE'. Three months later, the whole game will be closed down. "UNTIL THE - REMEMBER, WHILE THE NGE IS MAKING $1 PROFIT A YEAR, IE. TWICE AS MUCH AS THE MATRIX ONLINE MAKES NOW, SOE WILL NEVER PULL THE PLUG, IF ONLY OUT OF SPITE." |

No. SOE is out of the picture soon. We will see classic servers, but not from SOE.... |

As far as classic servers --- I still wish they would do it, but I think it is a moot point. Although I believe there is room for more than one SW MMO, I doubt Lucas people feel that way. I really hope the new game is good. The only real tragedy will be if the KOTOR MMO is like a good version of the NGE :( TBH I hope the game is good more for the vets here and current players than for myself. . . the appeal to SWG to me was always about the Star Wars I remembered from the movies--- storm troopers -- vader -- tie fighters etc. Anyway, back to the point, will they? I dunno, they should have years ago and did not so who knows?

SWG is different license than KOTR , they can co exist , same as Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 , same as Eq1 and Eq2. Lucas is still making his royality check on each sub and each station pass , he would be more than happy to keep it alive. From what I understand , SOE is talks Lucas extended Star Wars worlds , material which happen during that time period writen and shown in Dark Horse comics. The sandbox died ages ago , it wasnt working , the game is still making money , the last report is SOE was making 310 million in 2006 + 3% from the Exchange server. The station pass is still the best deal around , it includes a ton of games , maybe dying games but still playable games and Eq2 , SWG and Vanguard are fun for a few months at time. |
