I know there is no true way to know , For some reason I can't help but think that it will be less than stellar. Haven't they said their MMO will be story driven ? That to me sounds along the lines of LOTOR . Or even a system similar to their Aurora engine . I can't imagine a large focus on World (galatic scale) PVP . It seems a focus on (Heroic and Iconic) instanced style PVP would better suit a story based formula ,I hope I'm wrong.

considering Bioware has no experience in pvp (that i know of) they will no doubt use the tried and tested form of pvp (instances, battlegrounds and maybe some open world stuff).  they will say they are going to make a new and exciting form of PvP but really they will be re-using what others have succeeded on (and it makes sense to do so if you have 0 experience in that part of MMO's)

of course i could be wrong...

In most newer bioware games there is a good/evil meter (lightside/darkside). I suspect this will make it into the MMO and players will be able to play as jedi or sith depending on their actions in the world. Non-force users will also align with either good or evil and fight the opposites side. You could also have PvP even more complex. My idea is as follows:

Jedi can only fight sith and and defend themselves against aggressive non-force users. Jedi must always be mindful of the consequences of their actions because they can fall to the darkside in PVP too. This could happen by attacking and killing a non force user or killing another jedi.

Sith can fight and kill everyone.

Non-force users can fight and kill everyone.

This would follow the lore a bit more and really add some complexivity to the game.

Proposed classes:

Jedi:

Guardian: focuses on lightsaber combat

Consular: Focuses on healing and buffs

Adept: Focuses on using force powers

Sith:

same as above with maybe a life leecher instead of a healer.

Non-Force users

Mandelorian: basically a tank using mandelorian armour and heavy ranged weapons

Smuggler (scoundrel): Think han solo with some stealth like glass cannon abilities

Bounty hunter: Range combat and cool gadgets

Soldier: another straight up combat class with some moderate combat healing

Don't see a problem with PVP. I expect they will combine story driven quests like LOTRO with PVP elements from WOW, with different servers allowing different levels of PVP.

That's what really worries me, The formula that LOTOR follows is really shallow , Due mainly to it's story focused game play . That might work for a game based on the rings books , But I don't know how it will fit a galaxy wide conflict like Star Wars .Instanced battlegrounds IMO would feel confined and to structured . They wouldn't give that feel of being involved in a major conflict . The mere inclusion of an FFA server wouldn't solve that issue either.

The combat will likely be similar to Mass Effect considering the same guy that designed the combat for Mass Effect is doing so with the MMO.

I would really like to see open PvP but I think it will likely be battlefield PvP, maybe some PvP mixed in to missions, etc, then a lot of PvE.

Just a guess though.

I cannot play an MMORPG without full PvP. I'm not talking about overt/covert dual garbage ;/ Iif you're either IMP and REB, you should ALWAYS be flagged for PvP.

Story driven quests for both the light and the dark side can of course be integrated in a galaxy wide conflict setting. I really don't think any difficulties per se. However, it always burns down on how well it is implemented. And that we have no way to know yet
