Because classic EQ doesn't exist anymore. It was dummied down and turned into a raiders only game by SOE after Brad Mcquaid relinquished creative control. It's also now instanced and has had minimaps added pointing where to go and teleports are available everywhere, etc. It sucks now. Horizons was a great game at first but was mismanaged which hurt the population to the point where it wasn't worth playing as a MMOG. Also they didn't deliver on the personal plots for all players which ruined the game for many of us. It's being repaired by the new owners but I don't want to play on a 4 year old server. The fun of Horizons is growing on a fresh world and rebuilding all the structures. Until they launch a fresh server start, it's all window dressing. Ryzom also needs a fresh server start, for me to consider playing again. Ryzom also suffered from low population numbers due to being mismanaged and not marketed properly. The new owners need to run an advertising blitz along with a fresh server launch. I am not interested in playing on a 4 year old server. |

I started playing mmo's with 10six and till this day its the best mmo ive ever played. It had such a hardcore following that once sega closed it, the community brought it back. The graphics are really dated 1999, but the gameplay and core features are still the best out of any mmo. I actually even played it again last year, if they would make another one it would be my last mmo id ever play. Even with the best gameplay, playing a 10 year old game just sucks.

I guess the biggest reason to me. Would be time invested, and friends. In games I don't look for some super short cut. I go out and have a blast learning the land, learning my skills. That takes time, and sometimes after you done a few times over already its just the idea of starting from nothing again that holds me back. Plus the friend issue made doing all this fun also and sharing that experience, with them gone also just dont feel like starting the process of meeting others again. With a new game its fun just running around and you make the friendships as you go without even trying. Going down the almost exact same path before alone isnt. |

To answer the topic title: Because most brilliant, old MMOs have been ruined by recant patches, hacks, or a player-base which is too small. Some even a mixture of the lot. _________ |

To return to my "old" MMO I would first have to leave it. I am still actively playing Everquest, and have no intentions of leaving it any time soon. I have friends in my guild that I have know and ejoyed playing with for many years now, that is something no FotM game can replace. I do play other MMO's at the same time, but seldom stay with the same one for more than six months. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do. |

My first was ImagiNation. It was sold to either AOL or AT&T, and then the project was duped, so I can't go back to it even if I was dying to. SOC 86% EXP 73% ACH 33% KIL 6% |

well companys tend to ruin the old games. eq for an example. i've resubed to DAoC and EQ a couple times, and every time the changes they had made while i was gone ruined the game. so thats my only issue. |

I'm still playing Asheron's Call, and I still love it - I think it's still one of the all-time best MMOs out there. When scary things get scared, that's bad... |

That is my whole issue with MMORPGs. I would love to go back to EQ the way it was but it doesn't exist anymore. It has been changed, modified till it is garbage. In single player rpgs I can still go back and I do relive the wonderful game it was when I played it such as Baldur's Gate. Unfortunately we can't do this in MMORPGs because the developers of MMORPGs keep advancing their game into heaps of garbage. They should always keep a back up of the game in a classic state in my opinion for ten years down the road, a lot of people would love to come back ot the game they loved. |

Nostalgia is a strange thing. Imagine people playing Pac Man 10 hours in a row. Yes old MMORPG's were THAT bad. |

I miss me some DAoC =) Oooo those were the good old days---having to run from green grassy plains to the side-scale of snowy mountains just to get to the hot ganking spots ------------------------------ |

Because of the dated engines/graphics and the fact that everyone and their dog is already top notch, so the journey up to endgame is Zzz. If I didnt mind the oldschoolness I'd be playing bard's tale 1 to 3 heh. But that's like using a jet fighter to go to the corner store for cigarettes. I had played AO for a few months last year, and had some fun with it.. but yeah. We can do better than that, if only some dev got their act together and stopped trying to make watered down mass-market crapfeast wowclones ---- |

Fung Wan Online. I had a blast playing it. I guess it was the open beta times. I loved it - first virtual world I experienced, martial arts, soloable, beautiful scenery... I tried going back but it seems to be all in Chinese now... Anyway, I'm more inclined to try other oldies like DAoC or AC when I take a break from my main MMOGs. |

In the case of EQ and DAoC both games have changed their core gameplay, therefore, are no longer fun to play. Before both games changed directions they were extremely fun. EQ was not a raid centric game until Luclin came about, and then with the release of PoP it was all she wrote. DAoC game out with ToA, which, turned the game into one giant nightmare. |
