When I started to play VG few months ago, some people helped me, until i said this game was buggy.. So they rejected me: I had to take a 2nd account, new char. Couldn't even talk on channel, etc.. A shame. Came back to VG after GU5, "those" people stopped VG, they are now VG haters. That's the reality of fanboys: they're not players, they are addicts. For these people, MMO are drugs. (i'm not talking about all cty : VG 's community is really great and cool but about some people, ex-VANBOYS now VG haters) So forget them. They are not interesting. |

Smith, If you are looking for a guild to help out and answer questions look at Safe Haven. I joined this guild on the free month and was level 20ish. I'm now 27 and have done so many great quest because they told me where to go. A good guild can make or break this game in my eyes. As for general chat I try to answer questions that I can, but at times I do see the bad comments. The few can ruin it for the masses. Try not to let the few ruin the game for you. Look me up in game if you need anything. Scorchzhin - Serdon - 27 Druid. |

I just started playing on Seradon (free month) and I have nothing but praise for the community. I had to re-learn a lot of things, so I asked in chat - and got answered. Of course from time to time u hear sparks of @sshats, but thats normal. In fact, it happens so rarely that I almost never notice it. VG has come around by a big leap, it still has problems, but it has gotten bette. Not sure if its worth a paying sub though. Cant make up my mind yet. I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

The community has been amazing the last few months. One of the best. I feel like you are the type of person who experiences one or a small group of people and then stereotypes the whole community to fit their personality. |

Character customisation? What you mean the choice of 3 or 4 faces that all look the same, or 3 or 4 hair styles that all look terrible, or slightly changing the length of your arms, or slightly changing your height. Character customisation may as well be non-existent in Vanguard anyway. At least by removing most of it it saves you from having to waste time with all those sliders just to get a character that looks like everyone else from the same race. Hopefully though when the new models are implemented in August you will actually be able to create a more unique character that doesnt look like a gay plastic doll. |

I had a level 50 guy with a boat help me with a level 20 quest. I didn't even know the guy. I just asked for help in the region channel and he came. The community has been quite pleasant lately actually. |

This is my 4th go around with VG if you count the beta's. For the first time i will actually sub after a month of playing :P Sure it has bugs.. all mmo's have bugs and i'm not sure Vanguard has so many more than normal any longer. The key is it's fun now! |

Sorry you had a bad experience. Personally, I've seen community constantly helping people in regionsay, giving away weapons and armor and event setting up events for all the new players. That said, with as many people that are playing now, it's unavoidable to find a few, as you say, asshats :) There's also some very crowded areas now with the dramatic rise in population and I've seen tensions rise as a result. |

Hey Agt, good to see you around again ;). You may have mentioned it, but what server are you playing on? I have a 26 sorc on Seradon named Ruprekt. I know where you are coming from when you talk about the community. There seems to be that group of folks who were "here from the beginning" with the elitist attitudes. They always seem to be in general chat saying "go back to WoW" and seem to want to keep any new people coming in and ruining "their" game. Personally, I love games where you see a lot of noobie questions being asked in general chat, as it always seems to stimulate some kind of conversation, and thats half the reason to play an MMO ;). VG isn't immediately intuitive, and I cannot understand why those "founder" types get their panties in a bunch because someone didnt know about the /setfog command.

I agree here - never understood some of the attitudes because while VG is not super hard it is comparitively difficult in terms of waht many people are used to. So a bit of confusion with quests and other such things is understandable, especially since the newbie areas really do nothing to explain the game mechanics and such. Some people just don't get a quet that says to see Mr. So_and-So and speak the words "Praise so and so" means go stand close and target that NPC and the do a '/say Praise so and so'.
Originally posted by scorchshin I am just not a 'joiner'. I have always done my own guilds - had 20+ back at launch of VG but all bailed although I still maintain friendships with a couple of those people. To me an MMO needs to be group accessible even if you go indy as I just don't like joining someones else's show. Honestly, I wish DEVs would do more with guilds allowing small guilds to band together in allilances (even if in associative way only like sharing a chat channel or extra guild alliance online list type thing) to encourage people to form their own play groups while being able to combine with other small such groups to take advantage of the stuff more accesable only to large groups.

hmmm, I can see where you're coming from (clowny, Thillian ;)) , but I've made unpopular mistakes in my time. I made the mistake of saying the graphics weren't very good on the EVE forums, but it turns out there was an additional download for good graphics. It depends how his accusation is met. If it met by people saying things like 'no, you're an idiot, you're wrong' then even I wouldn't admit i was wrong, but if people were suggesting reasons in a nice and friendly manor, then I would admit my mistake. But AgtSmith has been nothing but help to me, so I doubt his intentions were bad, just impulsive. ---------------- |

Yesterday I got with a good group and had a blast so we will see how it unfolds. I think it may come down to a bit of what happend here a couple posts ago where some of the old players are just a bit touchy, understandably, when it comes to the game. Keeping that in mind maybe things will look a little less harsh as I think I can understand some of the vets being a bit defensive. -------------------------------- |

We did this in EQ when I was part of an alliance of smaller guilds. We even setup an alliance web page so that we could communicate and plan even better. This was nice as it still allowed you to maintain your independence and being a small guild gave you a bigger voice then as an individual. |

I actually think this is the best MMO community out there right now. Anyone can have a bad streak running into a few arsehats one after the other. I think it was just bad luck. The community is extremely helpful, especially the vets as they want the game to grow, and were always a bit more mature anyways. |

I am not a joiner........ thats is phrase that triggered my memory of the event. Constant and persistant whining about not enough groups and every time someone offered help by suggesting you join their guild or some guild..... I am not a joiner..... you would say. The community is very helpful. We tried to help you. You kept whining. We asked you nicely to stop whining. You didn't. We got a bit rude in the end because genuine requests for help from other people were being lost in the spam of people who were just trying to get you to.... be quiet. Hopefully now people will understand why you suffered such strange treatment when the opposite is actually far more common. Glad you actually did find some good groups since this unfortunate incident. I still say you should at least TRY joining a guild one day. Other people actually can run guilds very well too you know.

Wow, you must be playing a different game. I have run small guilds, large guilds, guilds with world kills, and I have played every MMO out there (with the exception of FF) and I have to say, this is the best community, hands down. I have never been in a more nurturing, nice, courteous and helpful community.

I got so sick of hearing this stuff on the forums! lol Players saying they would quit because they couldn't adjust the bridge of their nose. I think those players were just looking for something to get mad about. I mean, that's cool, everyone needs a hobby. People forget that there are still 15 classes, and 15 races. Also, so many classes have so many unique and cool abilities. I won;t even go into all the good stuff about the game, because after all, without a choice between a nose with a bump and a nose without one, the game is crap. Also, forget the fact that they are re-doing all the models and will be putting most of the options back. Beau
Yes, they removed 90% of the FACIAL customization. Some races in Vanguard have a nice lore but a ridiculous appearance, with facial customization it was possible to reduce at least a bit of the goofyness of some races. Customization is a very important factor as your character represents a bit of yourself and it was one of the most important details in Vanguard at the release, without it the game is incomplete. If you dont care about how your character looks, it is ok, but I dont think it is fair to see this issue as an useless detail. There is no skill tree to customize your character, amors are a bit better than EQ2 armors, but most of them are just the same with different collors, animation isnt good, there is no voice over selection, no hair animation and you still think no facial customization is ok? See, in Vanguard regular creatures, dungeon and raid mobs, landscapes, mounts, animals... all of them have a better and more expressive look than playable characters now, facial customization is needed for sure... Customization cut is the kind of thing that happens in Alpha tests, not one year after the release... I just hope they make it right in the next update.
