EVE Online

Story:

I work weekend graveyard shift. So im rarely online during the weekend due to work and sleep...That sort of thing.....

Keep in mind that im still fairly new to the game......

Well I logged in and was getting ready to mine.  I undocked my ship and went to my favorite Asteriod field to mine rich Plag. There was little chat going on in the corp or alliance. I ususally dont check my evemail immediately to my detriment today.

All of the Sudden out of nowwhere a ship with a red star shows up and blows up my mining barge that I worked hard to get and time to train.  I was pissed and was wondering WTF? I escaped w/o being podded. Luckily.

I went into chat and asked about the red star..... I was quickly informed that an alliance over the weekend had declared war on my alliance. I asked why and got "I dont  know" I thought... guess we were at the whim of a random dart toss to be picked on! LOL

While this was going on our alliance leader sent me  a whisper chat message chewing me out because i didnt stay in station and not go anywhere. I plainly told him that i didnt know any of this happened as i work weekend graveyard shift. He gave me the no excuse and I needed to keep up with current events in the game. Of course i dont need to relate the rest of the story as i stated that this game isnt my life etc etc and maybe he needed to get one...... I also told him i pay a sub fee to play the game not sit and just pick skills to train.

Well after that lovely conversation i got chewed out again because i told the guy in local chat Nice work destryying a newb.

This got me thinking.......

1. If your new dont even think about playing this game.... you'll always suck compared to others....

2. If you do play you'll be spinning your perverbial wheels in the mud for way too long.....

3. The game gets in long spurts where its just plain boring....

4. If your Corp / Alliance isnt a pvp one and someone declared war.....your wasting 15 bucks to sit around with thumb up your kister as they'll just  hunt you down if you want to do anything.

Look folks i know what your thinking..... Its a PVP game with realistic consequeses and results and poop happens and you knew this signing up. You would be correct. 

Im a victim of Game progress past and present. I look forward to leveling up and making some cash. I look forward to talking with other players. I look forward to making progress within the game. Very little of this occured within the game..... It was fun to a small point. The game and I failed to truly connect and After all this i decided the game isnt for me.

The graphics i thought were good. Good economy. Some good ppl within the game, but in the end i canceled my subscription. I really had high hopes for this game.

Sorry but will never recommend this game to anyone who likes to see true game progression.....

Sounds like your in a really crappy alliance if they didn;t straight away evemail you to warn you...

Its not the game, its who your playingwith...  you actually sound like you'dbe better off in one of the NPCcorps, they can;tbe wardecc'd

see, where you messed up is that you thought a pvp-type alliance that war dec'd an industrial-type alliance, actually had players with 1- balls, 2- strength and 3- are not weaksauce-coated little biatches.

if you dare to ridicule some vet for taking out a rookie pilot --- zomgwtfbbqsauce... you are smack talking... because in the minds of wussified little moronic asshats -- it's cool to blow up those far weaker than yourself and for people to go "hey good fight blowing up that rookie, even though you have 40m SP more than him". 

and that is WHY those candy-asses pick easy targets; because way back in the day, some weak-willed assclown decided if he got that as an unwritten rule; then he could grief until his heart was content and people would talk about him (to his face at least) like he was a hero... OR, he could pretend that the silence in chat meant that he kicks lots of ass!

you can play a game for 20 years, and still suck to the point that you ARE a noob.

see the repeated failure cascade which is the band of developers.

what is classic is when a pvp alliance declares on an industrial alliance and all they want is "good fights".

what that translates to is they suck ass at pvp and need to pad their KB so they don't look like the eternal noobs that they are.

You hit the nail on the head!! PVP combat oriented alliance picked on an industrial one.....

Also I forgot to tell you that the corp i belong to didnt like thier players paticipating in PVP. That may hve did me in also as i couldve learned a few things.....

Not all corps are alike, and as has already been said, you'd probably be better off in an NPC corp than your current one.

Why not give the game a little more time?  Go back to your starter corp and then start looking for a new one?  Eve has so much to offer, even for miner/industrialist/researcher types.  I'm sure you can find a way to get more from the game without the hassle of a poopy corporation

So you didn't know what a red star meant? and you blame the guy who killed you for your ignorance? EVE is a serious game that needs players to do some basic research and make some effort toward learning the game mechanics, those who don't get punished.

You sat there blissfully mining in your own world ignorant of how the game is played, if you knew about war dec mechanics you might have been more aware perhaps even aware enough to see the red star dude in the same system as you and took some precautions and lived but by didn't even bother to check your mails either.

So you where lazy and ignorant and its the other guys fault for being a evil greifer?

Experiences teach us many things. The experiences in the game have taught me that the game wasnt for me, based on games ive played b4.

The game as you well know has a steep learning curve. Not everything is taught to you immediately.  I didnt play that long to know the full intricacies of the game.  lack of experience and  communication, not ignorance killed me. Understand the difference. 

Anyway....

Maybe ill give it another shot down the road, but not right now.

Perhaps my wording was to harsh, by ignorance i was referring to the way you where unaware of game mechanics not trying to say you are an ignorant person.

You do know that when a war is declared the corp receives a mail from concord informing them and provides a 24 hour grace period before fighting can begin?  but you didn't check your mail....

A lack of experience isn't what killed you on this occasion it was a lack of you trying to help yourself, the best way in any game as in depth as EVE is to teach yourself and not wait for it to be taught to you.

The specifics of your corp is something i don't know, did they have forums? do you read those forums if they are there? do you involve yourself in the corp or just log in and mine and mind your own business or is the corp just one of the crappy corps?

I would recommend you persevere with EVE because once it comes together it is a game experience like no other but it doesn't come easy and you gotta roll with the punches. Try speaking to EVE university and see how things go from there.

when you get wardeced, concord send you an alliance mail. you should have checked. its your own fault. EVE isnt for you, thats a real shame. can i have your stuff?
