SOE has posted a guide to help new and returning players choose a character class in EverQuest II.

As a new or returning player to EverQuest II, some of the choices you face when creating your character can be a bit daunting. One of those choices is your class. Here's some information on the different classes available in EQII, and links to some guides that might help you make this tough decision.

EverQuest II has 24 classes available to players. Class is chosen during the character creation process, after race, gender, appearance, and starting city are selected.

Please note that not all classes are available to all races initially. Races are chosen by alignment (good, neutral, or evil) and appropriate classes are then available to choose from, depending on the race alignment. For example, you cannot choose to be a Dark Elf ranger or a Froglok defiler during the character creation process. There are some exceptions to this rule when a character betrays their home city, but not during the initial character creation.

Classes are based on four main archetypal roles: the fighter, the mage, the priest, and the scout.

As a new or returning player to Everquest 2 (if there are any NEW players) you will notice that there are several servers that are nearly deserted because many many players left to go play Age of Conan, and despite what SOE would like you to believe, most of them have not returned. Now SOE knew long ago that AoC was being touted as the next big game, they knew well in advance when AoC was being released...and yet instead of having their own release of a new expansion to try to counter balance the exodus, they made grand plans of world events and a new LoN (RMT Money Grab) tournament....They also decided to reward those players who had left (let us call them NON-LOYAL customers) by GIVING them all of the expansions they didn't have as well as a  month of free play...those players who were LOYAL and never left got NOTHING...

Well needless to say, few returned, and many of those who did played their free month and left again...Many servers are like ghost towns...a quick trip through the T8 zones will show you zone populations approaching single digits at peak play times, groups will spend hours looking for tanks or healers and give up without entering into a single instance, and entire guilds have broken up because they lost so many of their members to AoC....

Players on the official forums have been begging SOE to do SOMETHING to get the population back on these servers but SOEs MEN IN BLACK forum moderators shut down these posts or move them to some obscure forum where the developers of SOE are unlikely to ever read them...  Players are hoping for some sort of expansion release and ADVERTISING....but SOE does not appear to want to put any money into advertising a game going on 4 years old (or is it 5? hard to tell the way they mark their anniversaries). OR maybe SOE needs to merge some of the low population servers....God forbid they have to show the MMO world that their game is losing it's player base with something as tell tale as a SERVER MERGER....

I guess they would rather have their LOYAL customers suffer with low populations, but then they have shown how they feel about their loyal players...to SOE they are just a bunch of mindless addicts and SOE would rather exploit them for their money than actually make the game more enjoyable....

SOE fanboyz and bootlickers need not respond....
