UO + DAoC + SWG + SL + EQII + LOTRO = Near perfect MMORPG. |
Too bad they didn't have buddy keys for those who wanted to try out their game... I ended up wasting $50 on a game I am not going to play. Ah well, I suppose that was their goal. I would urge any curious players to wait until there are buddy keys rather than spending the $50 to buy the game. Live and learn. A Voice From Within |

Buddy keys were always intended to be implemented. It is not their fault you don't like their game or that you could not wait. However, the keys are being setup within the next week or two, according to the latest dev report. |

patience is not peoples best trait it would seem if things does not work out perfect when you play a pc game then you need to play console game which has a higher % rate of working as intended as for pc games in general there is always something that is wrong.. |

Also by looking at what you typed it seems you bought the game for the buddy key, so I am geussing you wanted to try the game with a buddy, I suggest to wait with your free-30 days and when the buddy key system is activated you can actived your account do the same what i said before, invite your buddy and try the game. BUT..... if its only YOU who wants to try the game then use logic and try what i said the first time about your 30 day's of free play. ------------------------------------------------------------ |

Sometimes i wonder if ppl are actually using their brains... I will explain what has been posted here by the OP, the OP wanted to try the game out, but due to the lack of buddy keys, had to purchase the game for 50 dollars to try it out (because there are no buddy keys, had to use the 30 day free that come with the game), after trying it out the OP probably did not like the game hence why the "a game im not gonna play", if there was a buddy the OP wouldnt have to spend 50 dollars to try the game, instead would have just tried it and realized he didnt want to pay for it and moved on. The OP finalizes its post by giving out a warning to ppl that want to try out to wait for buddy keys, and not waste the 50 dollars on the box to try it out. Your welcome, im glad to help. Please re-read every post on a thread twice before posting again and if in doubt dont post.

I started playing MMOs in 99 when I got my dirty hands on UO and I have to admit that I was kind of getting tired of the same generic bullshit and a gameplay evolution gone backwards, so I hadn't originally intended to buy another MMO, really. Age of Conan made it in though, and I'm pretty happy I got it because despite it's flaws it's the first breath of innovation I've seen in 11 years. So I guess it's needless to say that I disagree with you, but I'd like to add that the buddy keys weren't made available because there wasn't really room for it. The game sold far more copies than anyone at Funcom evidently had expected, and as such they barely had enough server capacity for the people who bought the game. So it was only natural for them to hold back the buddy keys since paying customers are more important. It's a shame for you, yes, but then a free trial of a product is a service, not a right. |

Not when on the box i bought it says it comes with a buddy key inside, well i guess we'll just add that under "Another Funcom Bullshit". Having played UO as well i consider AoC the same old linear crap but that's just me.

Originally posted by rav3n2 The regular box doesn't say anything about a buddy key until you open it. And the little snippet which tells you about the buddy keys, also tells you certain conditions may apply. Such as not having enough server capacity perhaps? It's unfortunate, but what can you do? |

Maybe they knew the "state of their game" at release and wanted to maximize the box sales. So, they remove the buddy keys to force people to purchase the game. I can bet the buddy key is for Tortage only.

Well I didnt buy the regular box, it says and I quote: "Buddy card (for 5 friends)". Glad we got that sorted.

No sir. They held back the 2nd wave to create a supply and demand issue. They knew how the game was "raw" on release. They had to maximize sales right out for the starting gate. There will never be another time when they will have this many box sales in such a short amount of time. Sorry for the conspiracy plots... I just wanted this game to succed on so many different levels. I am an advid fan of Howard's writings. Perhaps they will "fix" all of this later........who knows? |

Originally posted by Hpnotiq That's not really a marketing strategy a lot of companies would ever apply, especially not companies whom rely on long term commitment from their customers such as Funcom does. AO was more "raw" at it's release and as I recall Funcom was litterally giving it away. I got two free copies attending various events in the months after it's release at least. Which was a little bittersweet considering I had actually bought it. :p
Originally posted by Hpnotiq I'm not sure how true they will stay to Howard's works, it's a MMO after all and they aren't really the perfect platform are they? But that's another discussion. I am sure, however, that Funcom is working as hard as they possibly can to improve the game and make the experience better for their customers. People seem to forget that there is no difference between a company selling shoes and a company selling video games. The biggest difference is frankly the customers, I mean, how often do you see people go /emo all over the fucking Internet because their newest pair of shoes didn't live up to their expectations? |

Cause obviously if a person isn't sure about a game anyone with a brain would not buy such game untill such person has indeed given the oppertunity to actualy trail the game. So yeah i slightly misread OP's post, so thanks for the fixe and it does indeed show that the topic created by OP was made with not using to much brain power, else OP would have known better then to creat a topic like this.

The CE doesn't say anything on the box. Just the name of the game. So I doubt many ppl who don't know much about the game, or weren't following the game would have bought the CE offa the shelf at the store. |
