Mark Jacobs just confirmed that they're going back to the name Mythic Entertainment and that EA is basically going to let it run as an "island" within the Corporation.  Good stuff.   Also, it looks like Mythic is going to announce something big tomorrow.

Anyway, this is what he had to say on the VN board last night:

"Folks,

Well, interesting speculation as to why and it really is as simple as EA continuing to reinvent itself. If you look at both the newly acquired studios (BioWare, Pandemic) notice that there is no EA before their name like there was ours. Having separate brand identities has been proven to be a winning formula in such diverse companies as Estee Lauder, Disney and GE. This is a long-standing wish of mine and speaking for everyone at Mythic, it's a great thing for all concerned. I really couldn't be happier that this has happened. I didn't mind being EA Mythic but ah, Mythic Entertainment sounds great, I love our new logo and the timing is wonderful.

As to the other stuff that is going to be announced tomorrow, I can promise you one thing, we are not announcing a delay. happy

Mark"

EA: "we now own your company"

mythic: "thats great, lots more money for our developments"

EA: "by the way were changing the name to EA Mythic"

mythic: "uhhhh no offence but i think Mythic Entertainment was a good name, our fans would be confused otherwise"

EA: "no the name will be EA Mythic, why are you trying to change it?"

mythic: "oh but we dont want to ruin ou...uhhh i mean your reputation"

EA: "oh your right...we dont want some poor development studio ruining our wonderful reputation...we shall allow you to keep your old name"

EA and mythic: "whew that was a close one"

Actually, EA is just doing business differently.  They have a new CEO and he has been revamping how they do business big time.  It has nothing to do with "washing their hands of it," and all about steering the big EA ship in a new direction.  Instead of micromanaging projects like before and canceling them left and right, they are taking a more "city states" hands off approach.  It's typically the most effective thing to do with very large corporations.  GE does this with their NBC property, for instance.

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

I really don't think there's anything confusing about EA Mythic either :S

InvaderGaz

I was reading about how they (EA) realized that things were going wrong, and a lot of people hated them for "destroying" their games. A couple of other signs have led me to believe that they are 'getting serious', outside of the EA guys comment to such effect. Glad to see it! I've never had a real problem with EA to be honest, but this means good things for WAR and their one other project in particular. Maybe WAR and The Other Project are the titles they hope will improve their image.

Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
