How about fanbois start looking at it this way: We wanted to love this game. We wanted to enjoy it thoroughly, and it was hard for us to cancel since we still were hoping for it to only get better. The opposite happened, and we had to cancel a game that we even UPGRADED OUR PCs for because we were looking that forward to it.

At least thats my situation. And I want a place to vent since I am banned from the AoC forums for talking about Vanguard. I really REALLY wanted to like AoC.

While the EXP rewards from the quests in the arena are pretty good, it was more the principle of the matter:

"Lets fix a bunch of a minor stuff wrong with Instance A, while the quest to get into Instance A remains broken, yeah that sounds like an excellent idea"

I cancelled as well.  Not because of the bugs or the missing features, I cancelled for one reason....

It wasn't fun for me.

Bugs and missing features I'm used to with MMOs.  Lord knows it happens alot with newly released MMOs.  The first 20 levels of AoC were ok and some of the quests were good.  But I wasn't really happy with the classes, and the game is too melee focused for my tastes.

So, if you're enjoying it then more power to you.  It just wasn't right for me.  In fact due to my disappointment with AoC, I've decided the following: 

     - Never preorder a MMO again

     - Never buy a CE edition

     - Never play a new MMO until the reviews are in

This had to be one of the games I looked forward to the most... only to be disappointed by the game itself.

People shouldn't be so ignorant. A lot of people ARE canceling. It isn't just a flavor of the month thing this time, Funcom is NOT doing a good job handling this game and people are angry. Rightly so.

I know 37 people that bought AoC, 31 of them pre-ordered, 6 picked it up on the day of release.

 6 still play the game. So I wonder how much of the disappointment in this game was caused by the Hype? This is a question I have been asking on almost every game I have bought recently and been disappointed with. What made this game a let down? Well a lot of the time, I realize, the game just didn't live up to the hype.

 So I am wondering, if I just ignore the next game development, and just see a new game on the shelf and buy it...what will happen? Might be the best game I have ever played? Because i wasn't expecting it to be any good!

 I still think this is going to be a good xbox360 game! it will take them a year to release it on the 360, and by then it will not only be polished, but might just be good!

Not sure about it being the best, but it was certainly most excellent.  Besides some little annoyances (not being able to search properly in the AH, etc). LOTRO was flawless at launch.

(actually it was close to flawless in CB as well when I joined). Not saying there were 0 bugs, but there was no gamebreaking bug anywhere, no performance issues, and no  major balance issues (which is not a big deal anyway as its's a PVE game).

Still happy to see alex-core loving it today - i can truly understand why :)

I canceled as well. After the last patch I keep getting lag spikes and the bar goes into the red about every 15 minutes. Allot of people are having this problem in guild and we were all waiting for today's patch to fix it but it didn't in fact it made it worse.

Really wanted this game to be the one but sadly it's not. I was expecting a real unique pvp game and what we got was the same stuff you find in every other MMO.

Not all is lost cause I found somebody to buy my account so at least I'm not out anything.

Maybe in about a year it will be a good game who knows but funcom needs to communicate more and not treat their customers like SOE does. If they think by removing threads and banning accounts is going to fool anyone maybe they should look at how well it worked for SOE with SWG/NGE.

I just don't think I'll buy the next game if I even play one right away but instead wait a year after it's release. I just think MMO's have taken a turn for the worse and it'll eventually hurt the industry as a whole.

For those that want to try it then role a Necro. If played right it can be allot of fun in pvp. Ranger is also good if you like griefing people because of the tracking skill. TOS is a great all around class for pvp and pve even though they keep nerf'n it. Barbarian is great at lower levels but suck at 50-60 then become very good in the 70's. Never played a demo but they have a ton of spike dmg along with Guardian.

I ended up with 2 lvl 80's which is very easy to do in this game especially if you have higher levels mentor you but as of today that was nerf'd. My TOS was very fun and very fast to lvl and still is a great all around toon if you do the feats right. My Barb is also lvl 80 and is crazy to play in pvp right now with his temp. My ranger is only 50 but still fun to hunt people and my POM is lvl 50 as well but kind of boring to play.

If your into healing and like pve some pvp then do bear shawman. If you lvl one of these everyone will want you in raid. All around best healer.

Anyway I'm basically quitting because of the way funcom is handling the game and don't seem to have a real sense of direction for what the game should be. I think they got lost trying to put in too much to satisfy the pve crowd and forgot to finish the stuff they said they would have for pvp and left the pve stuff half done. I'm sure they are working on it but right now the game is for me boring. Might return in a 6 months to see if they find a direction.

will do. Enjoyed it when SWG went to crap. Enjoyed it when D&L went to crap, Enjoyed it when Vanguard went to crap (actually might try that one again) and now AOC. I'm sure in a year I'll be enjoying it when WAR hits the skids but who knows maybe it'll be a good game.

Can anyone mention some "respected" gaming sites that have given AoC a bad/mediocore review? I would really like to read those reviews. Just as I will be looking for reviews on just-released mmo's on such sites in the future.

I still get a bad shiver when I read the paragraph from the paid shill review of GameFocus :

"This game is massively superior to "World of Warcraft" and "Lord of the Rings Online" and other current high rated MMORPG’s in many ways and should be a game to pull players of all types to it if they are willing to give it a chance"

Those guys should be banned forever from any criticism. The most blatant paid advertising ever seen :(
