I am going out to the community of fantasy fans and sci-fi fans and any other thing in the entire world that you are a fan of. I am particularly directing this at the folks who won't give SOE a second (or third or fourth) chance at redeeming themselves however we can use this thread for all the unhappy former WOW players or the AoC crowd or anyone who is angry with a game publisher.

If your least favorite game publisher got the license to create a game about your favorite ANYTHING, would you give your least favorite game publisher another chance because of your interest in the future game?

I can personally say that although I have sworn off Blizzard forever, if they produced a Firefly-inspired MMO I would be fanboy #1. If Funcom was given license to create a Marvel Universe MMO I would be Fanboy #1. Blizzard and Funcom are on the top of my 'do not play' list incidentally.

What say you, community? Could you give Blizzard or SOE or Funcom a second chance if they made a game based on your biggest interest? Even if you only subscribed to see how badly they mangled the content, would you? To me, having a game out based on my favorite thing would be like buying a box of cereal with a Gold ring for a prize and not digging to the bottom of the box the minute you got home with it.

Edit:

Because I forgot my personal holy grail of 'would play no matter what' content... An entire game based on the Palladium pen and paper roll playing games... fantasy, Beyond supernatural and especially RIFTS would be so cool and have so much potential.

Any game based on Forgotten Realms I would at least give a try.  I love the setting and all the characters within it.  There are many books written about it.

I also would likely try any Robotech/Macross themed game.  The idea of an RPG with planes that turn into robots intrigues me.

You kill the Joe, you make some moe

If I heard a Berserk mmo was being made, I wouldn't even care who's making it. :)

They better do it good though, or else..

Robotech would be cool as an MMO i think. It's why I gave RF Online a try because I thought the robot guys resembled Robotech a little. It was in looks only though :(

I wouldn't trust Blizzard to make anything about a WoW clone. So not even a little chance.

The cool thing about appealing to a small target market is you can present the game in a way to appeal to a larger market. Give me a fantasy MMO with full-blown fantasy elements but add an extra dimentional race and call them the 1800's... each player of this race has a six-shooter and a customizable bandana tied around their neck.

There's ways to market to anyone :)

$oE , destroying MMO since 1999.

The only thing $oE has now is 1 good artist. They used to have another but she is working on other games now.

The good game designers have left, the 1 good musician they had has left.

So I can't give them a second chance, they wouldn't be able to make a decent game. Not that they ever have, most of their games weren't theirs originally.

Yeah and I like the artwork for the Robotech planes/robots.  They did a really nice job I thought.  It would look good in an MMORPG.

I'd like a Firefly MMORPG too but would settle for a Weird West themed one...or maybe even Gamma World.
