I think the FF series is great and the MMO was decent but it wasn't very inventive. It would be great if more and better ideas such as some GvG, PvP, Player made kingdoms and more were included. Also I loved how you can change your class in FFXI but you could only be "using" two at a time, I'd like to see you be able to use about five. Two was pretty stupid. I'd rather it not be in FFXI world too. I would like to see a whole new MMO that is set in either FFXII or FFX's world. I found those two games the best in the FF series so far. (FFVII was decent) Discuss? Why or why not you like this idea! |

I agree that Final Fantasy needs a new MMO, and I think an announcement should be coming. However, playing within a main and support job seems balanced with the way FFXI battles are designed. Allowing a third support job risks making job choices that are even more cookie-cutter than current options. For example, I think most alliance PLDs will be 75PLD/37NIN/18WAR forever. |

Square-Enix has been working on a new MMO for the past few years. It doesn't have a name yet; however, the code name is "Rapture." Based off images shown a couple years ago, I think they were using FFXI as a base for it originally to design the world. They have switched to Crystal Tools, which is being used for FFXIII. The plan for it is to essentially keep everything that players like most about FFXI and fix anything that wasn't. You can, however, expect a large emphasis on teamwork though due to the nature of SE RPGs in general and Japanese society. I hope they keep the in-game job switching ability, that's one of the things I like most about it.

I don't think player made kingdoms would be all that great. Maybe having more than just a house. You didn't explain what kind of thing that would be. Like a guild's kingdom where they try to invade each other like in some other MMO's? I don't see how you would want 5 subs at a time. The job system is basically the same as previous FF's that had them. Having 5 subs would be so broken or they'd have to have them be really crappy when put together like that. Eh, I'd rather a whole new world than any of the previous ones. That's what they did with FFXI and the story is fantastic for it with the new races and everything too. |

WHY SO SERIOUS??? |
I really hope they fine tune the PvP systems from the initial design, rather than just slap on "ballista" as an afterthought. And brenner... yeah nobody even does that, what a waste. They shoulda just used those resources to fix what was already out there. But, I do recall reading an intervirew on 1up, about how they are making the new mmo different from ffxi, as they want the two games to be offered, (not totally killing xi). I just hope they don't steal the same armor pallets, because that screenshot I saw for "Rapture" that girl wearing that coat resembled like 3 different armors from xi morphed into a new armor. (which is what they usually do for most new stuff, even worse, they keep the original armor template and looks and just slap on new stats)... And this really gets on my nerves and is really lame. If you pay money for an expansion, you should get newer cooler, different looking armor from what's already in the game. I feel like I'm playing a game out of a bad dream, and can quote of line from the movie Grandma's Boy. "Why don't you just render them a different color?, That way, you could save time and money." This needs to seriously stop. |

I agree with Soulsurfer's rant about armor but almost all MMOs have that. I guess I want more classes because I'm big on DF and Renaissance's skill based ideas. More subclasses would widen or skills. My caracter was a Dragoon/White mage because I soloed most of the time. |

Well, I agree with your first point, FF series is great. The MMO is great (for the right person, like myself) but to say it's not very inventive? It added a lot of elements that maybe you forgot or didn't get to when you played (assuming you played here, you didn't specify really). I don't know how they would do the GvG though as you're not locked into a Linkshell (Guild). You can have several. As far as PvP, they have plenty of PvP in the game if you choose to do it. I agree, not a huge emphasis on it but i don't care for PvP so that works well for me. With the subjobs thing i have to disagree with you again. I think having a main job and a sub job is a lot better than having a main job and 4 sub jobs. That's borderline ridiculous I think.. However, i do agree with the new MMORPG not being in Vana as it would detract from what the new MMO would bring to the table. FFXI was set in a new world so I imagine the new MMO would be set in a new one too. I think with a lot of the stuff you suggested it just wouldn't make the game a Final Fantasy game anymore and i certainly wouldn't move from XI to the new one if they did those changes. What I *would* like to see from FF and Square is listening to their players more. They're just now implementing changes that were being begged for 6 years ago. Also, my biggest bone to pick with them is their releasing expansion packs when it's only 15% of the game intended. ToAU took what? like a year for the story line missions to be all added finally? Now wings has been out months and they're on mission 8 or 9? This is ridiculous and if this wasn't FFXI with it's hardcore fans, this wouldn't fly in another game. |
