I put EQ2 to max graphics. Ran like crap, so I turned them down to medium-high. Still ran like crap. I got less FPS than I do in Age of Conan

8800 Ultra 768MB

2GB RAM

XP Home Edition

2.2GHz Duo Core

This is very strange for a game a few years old, considering Call of Duty 4 gets 90+ Bioshock is 45+ and Age of Conan is 20-30+

Oh, dude, hate to break it to you, but it's time to upgrade your system. Grab that tax rebate check and run out to your local Best Buy and get the latest and greatest to stimulate the economy.

Either that, or your problem is that you should have stayed at a Holiday Inn last nite.

Hmm, I can run EQ2 on max settings (minus bloom and shadows cause I have played without them for years) and get a nice frame rate.  I have the same video card as you and 3.0ghz core 2 duo, 4 gig of ram, and Vista.

Maybe run a driver cleaner and make sure you have the most up to date video drivers.

I cant see what he needs to upgrade. The point is he played AOC with no issues. I would say you might have a setting on that EQ2 cant figure out. Other then that im not to sure.

Hmm, I don't know, there is something else wrong. I have a "similar" system and I can run EQ2 extremely well on the setting just below the highest.

Can't remember my vid card but it's not as nice as yours,
2 gig ram
2.2 duo core
xp home edition.

Shadows always kill my framerates.  Drops them down below 20-30.  Make sure to turn those off and you will see a good improvement.

With that setup you should easily get 40-50+ fps in most areas, though you may still have to cut back on some settings when there are lots of people and effects going on around you.

One thing you may want to check is the water settings.  For some reason even though water is not around if you set all of the water settings to the lowest you will get a massive increase in frames.

You could use minor upgrades like another 2gb of ram and a quad core...but there's a problem with EQ2 that many experience, it's a memory leak. -_-

What are you talking about? My video card is the second most powerful card in the world under the 9800 GX2. 2GB RAM is great for EQ2 and 2.2 Duo Core is a little old, but it's better than single core.

Seems the common theme here is to drop shadows and water effects. I'll try that out and see what happens. I also turned off bloom as it looks unrealistic and drops FPS by almost 10

Sometimes I wish I was a balloon!

Since when do games need a Quad Core :p (seriously go read up on core's)

his system is ok, sure you can put more ram in and sure he can go to a higher Dual Core. But the thing is he doesn't have to. So I'm betting it's a software problem. Mess around with some setting like some have suggested, maybe update/downgrade graphics driver. But simply if the setting tweaks won't work contact tech support.
