I got my WoW account in December 2004. You could say I am a slow leveler, just did not have the time to invest ... leveled one too many alts to 40 ...  but after level 40 the leveling got very slow and tedious for me.

Finally in July 2008 I got one account to level 65, but could not take it any further, full time job, responsibilities, a baby, the best I could snag were a few hours a week. But I really would have liked to get a flying mount, but it looked like it will never happen.

So I went ahed and bought powerleveing service from <modedit: link removed> because it looked like a serious service that would not use hacks and such. Some guy would kill mobs for a few days in a certain spot.

Alas it was not to be, in just two days I got my account banned for unauthorized third party software. THey keep claiming that they did not use hacks but of course I do not belive them, Blizz has no reason to lie to me, they could have banned me for powerleveling as well.

I guess I got what I deserved.

Just a warning to anyone else. I wish someone else warned me too.

the service didnt have to use a program in order for your account to get a ban

having anyone else play your account is a automatic red flag for banishment. Lets just hope you learned somthing from this.

im sure you knew the risks when you went there.

I suspect a lot of these companies use bots. I've seen friends whose characters I knew were being powerleveled... So for fun I went up to their toons and just did silly things to try and provoke a reaction. They did nothing, they acted very very "bottish". I can't remember which powerleveling service they used, but I don't think it was the same as yours. Either they WERE botting or they were very cool tempered and were just ignoring me.

Yeah... it's bannable but to be honest, I don't judge people for powerleveling. Unless they only just started the game and haven't even reached 20 before powerleveling, that's just silliness!

Unlucky... but at least you've broken the WoW curse :-) You can come join the City Of Heroes lot now :-D We're very friendly and suit people with families and responsibilities

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

I don't see the point of buying a game and paying someone to play it for you.  End game Wow is nothing but a grind worse than leveling anyway.

The OP broke the rules and got punished.  It's actually rather nice to see things working out they way they should.

Blizzard banned me once for using Curse Gaming's 'Ultimate Warcraft Add-on Pack' that at the time had over 122,000 other downloads. I found it hard to believe that I and 122,000 other gamers were all given 3-day bans for these add-ons that millions of players use.

I never resubbed after the ban.

Blizzard is in it for themselves... 10 million players x $15 per month each and they can only crank out one expansion every 18 months?

Their CEOs are rich enough... they don't need my money anymore.

Popular != legal

If 122,000 people committed homicide today, do you think police would let you go because it was popular? Just because it comes from curse, doesn't make it withing the terms of use either.

You mean if your wife plays on the same account that is bannable? Let's be serious.

The leveling company actually refunded the money. I was impressed by that. I got into chat with a customer representative right away.

This makes me believe that they did not actually used bots. I think  what happened is that the account was logged in for a long time 3+ days, and they were grinding mobs in the same place. I think from Blizzard's perspective this looks like a bot.

From my own perspective if there is a person pushing the buttons it cannot be considered an offense. THis is a matter of what you are buying, and if it is permission to play, then once bought you should be able to transfer that to anyone you please. It is like giving a CD to a friend. Not even the RIAA considers that a crime.

If Blizzard logs two IPs using the same account yes they can ban you.  If it is someone else playing on your computer there is no possible way for Blizzard to tell.

Although, its kind of funny because I was once in your shoes. . .once I hit that point I was so board with the game I thought about a PL service but instead canceled never to resub again.

It's a Jeep thing. . .

Blizzard does not ban people by IP address logons as far as I know or have every heard.  I have played far to many accounts from people who don't even live in the same country as me and none of us have ever been banned.  There is just to many unknowns to ban people by IP address alone and far to many cases to actually investigate each.

None of the accounts I have played are from the oceanic server area so I don't know if that makes a difference, but odds are the original posters account was being leveled with a botting program.  Why hire someone when you can just run a program to do the work and if you get caught it isn't your loss.  They just buy a new domain name and start all over again.

It sucks to hear someone lost their account, but that is what cheating gets you.   Kudos to you for being honest about why you got banned and not blaming some addon pack (as if Blizzard monitors all the addons in your folder and knows which group make up some obscure addon pack on a website).

Oh noes!!1!1 That user has all the mods from curse gamings hellokittyonline mod pack!>!>@.@@  Ban him!

Remember that they refunded the money, if they knowingly cheated I really doubt they would do that. By the way  $67 that's what it cost to go from 65 -> 70

And from this we learn that getting other people to play the game for you is not only contrary to the point of the game, but dangerous.

If the cost of getting caught is less in refunds than it is to hire employees than it still works to their favor.

Who knows though. Maybe your account got redflagged for logging in from some known gold farm/power leveling IP in another country than your own.

There are a number of plausable reasons.

You know you're addicted to MMOs when you pay someone else to play for you. If the game isn't fun to play just quit. Why would you think paying someone to powerlevel you to max would increase your enjoyment?

All I want to know is how they knew someone else was playing it... just because the person had a different IP addy? Well that doesnt mean diddly. You could have been playing from a friends house, or playing in a hotel room, or have even moved! The person didnt sound the same in chats? Hardly since how would the GMs know? Unless the persons in-game friends could tell the difference and reported the guy for hacking... maybe the OP posted on the forums that he used it?

Im not defending the use of p-leveling services or anything of that nature, was just curious how Blizzard could know to ban if someone else was playing his account. So if a girlfriend of mine hopped on the game at my house, then Blizzard  some how magically knows its not me? O.o??

But then again Blizzard is creating its own problems by making the game grindy... I had often wished I could get someone else to level up my character past the slow-spots in the game. Especially 55-60. Yeesh... and then 65-70. lol 68-70 was the worst spot in the game...

Actually, even letting family members play your account is considered a bannable offense according to the terms of service (Blizzard even explicity states, for example, you can't let your childern create alts on your account - you're supposed get them their own).  Of course people do it all the time.  However, I know people that were banned because they shared an account.  When one of them moved across county and they continued to switch off - Blizzard flagged them for repeatedly logging on from different parts of the country (it's pretty obvious that somebody isn't flying back and forth between the East and West Coast several times a day).
