I have no idea why AoC decided to release 2 different versions of the game that don't allow access to all servers. We live in Sweden and just bought the game yesterday to play with some old friends from EQ II. Our friends live in US and Canada and we assumed that you could buy the game anywhere and play anywhere. In EQ you have the choice at the main log-in screen to choose EU or US servers and I think WoW has the same option. We looked around online and found the thread about changing the config files to US and have done that. Now we have the US game with an EU account key and still can't play. If someone knows a way to make it work after changing the config please post it here and it would slove the whole problem. It just seems completly stupid to release a game like that. I know there are some technical reasons to maybe do that but in this case why not do what EQ and WoW, the 2 biggest games, have done. It's an online game on the world wide web not the EU web or the US web. It's their choice to do it like that but if they do it needs to say on the retail box in big, bold print that this version only allows access to the EU servers or the US servers. I've played online games for close to 10 years now and have met friends from all over the world and alot of people perfer to play on english speaking servers where their friends are regardless of where they live. Three of us on 2 different continents spent an hour last night trying to find somewhere on the website that it says the servers are split and unplayable. We finally found a little blurb about it 3 or 4 pages into the "downloading the game online" section. Again imo, that's something that should be stated in pretty big print somewhere on the main AoC page. We can't be the only ones who have had this problem. We can't return the game to the store and get our $60 back because it's been opened and activated. We can't get through to any customer service reps online at AoC. They send an auto response letter back pretty much saying sorry we're too busy to respond and if you can't find out how to fix the problem on our boards you're sol. That's ridiculous and they have to be losing accounts and players because of it. Yeah we could go buy the online version but we've already bought the game and who wants to spend that much money again? I'd take responsibilty if it was printed on the box or online on the main page but it isn't. It's something that could probably be fixed by customer service if there was a way to talk to someone but there doesn't seem to be. I don't think the makers of AoC are trying to rip anyone off but it kinda makes you feel that way when stuff like this happens and you can't fix it without buying another copy of their product. |

In b4 people jump on the bandwagon MMORPGs that do this - WoW, LOTRO, SOE games and many others so before you start bashing Funcom (im not a fanboi dont even have the game) Think! |

Segregation is always bad... If you have a bad scedule, and end up playing outside the "main" hours, on segregated servers, you'll end up soloing most of your time in the game.. Wich is what I'm doing now :(
And I can't even play with my Aussie or Canadian friends(or americans too)...
Why do developers keep shooting themselves in the foot like this? DONT use publishers that can only publish in one part of the world! |

Well now.... Not to be too friendly to SOE(They be crap!), but they don't have segregation. Yes they might have servers named for europeans and located in europe or oceania(one day perhaps), but they don't disallow you to play on other continents. EQ2 I played on american server, with my friends. MXO I played on american servers with my friends. Planetside I played on European server, till my friends arrived...then I played american(and no lag!) SWG me'n friends played on american servers, till we found out that a RP community had successfully survived on a european server, so friends and me moved there.
Segregation is bad! |

Listing MMOs/Chars/Lvls does not make your post any more relevant. It just adds more crap to ignore. |
I agree. The whole point of playing on the internet is to interact with people from different places. They say its due to new Billing/Tax laws. But all they need to do for that is have two departments. They say its due to lagg. Ive played US servers for 4 years, I never had serious lagg. They say its to help people find guilds in their timezones. Which they should letus be the judge of that. On the whole, I think its taking MMO's backwards. |
