You know it is really kinda funny.  I've been playing vanguard recently and there is like this flood of people coming to vanguard from AoC.  Not sure if this is something talked about online in AoC among people when they become disastisfied?  But anyway Vanguard now days is like an AoC refugee camp.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but i would guess that the increase in Vanguard numbers has to do with the fact that Sony has re-activated all old Vanguard accounts and given away 2 months of free play time.

I for one can't be bothered with that game again, even if it's free, but i would imagine that a lot of people (who still had it installed), logged back in to see how it developed over the last 18 months. I don't think there would be many people who go back to Vanguard after AoC. Talk about holding out the other cheek ;)

As for Lord of the Rings, i can totally see that. People were a bit bored of the cookie cutter game that is LotRO and wanted to try AoC, found out that AoC was not all it was supposed to be and now that their free month is over, they return to LotRO. So yeah, i would guess the Lord of the Rings numbers are rising right now, but 1 to 2 months ago, they probably dropped off a bit when AoC launched.

There really is only 2 things out there that will shift the player numbers considerably again. 1 will be Warhammer and the other will be Wrath of the Lichking. I am not saying either will be good or the best MMO ever made, but both of them WILL shift player base.

Trolling.

I'm 100% posative that some disgruntal players of AoC have come over to give it a Go. but to tell the truth, Its the same game that everyone left over a year and a half ago. it has 4 servers? and when I look them up onm the vangaurd forums it says the average player is Lvl 10.

I personaly, If I was to quit AoC, and willing to downgrade to an Older Game, It would be WoW or EQ2. Games that got their S*** Together. IMO.

Good points there. There truly was a slight drop in Lotro activity recenlty (just around AOC's launch), even my kinship boss and some other folks from my KS have gone to AOC - but they also said it's temporary and they will be coming back to LOTRO when Moria is launched.

You did not mention, but this (release of Mines of Moria) could be the 3rd factor that will shift player numbers infavorably for AoC, I really think it'll be significant as well!

Actually, I have also read about the reactivated VANGUARD account thingy, and read about it on SOE sites.

On the other side, my old cancelled VG account is not active now either....

It is my experience that, for the most part (WoW not included) expansion packs only really generate between 5 and 15% of new players (i.e. if you have 100k subscribers you will get a max of 115k with an expansion pack). Sure they will have to come from somewhere, but even if they all come from AoC it'll not be that many.

Warhammer is a brand new game and will suck up considerable amounts of players, at least initially thanks to a massive hype, just like AoC. All those players will be sucked in from games that don't do so well and where players are bored. AoC, LotRO and Vanguard will be heavily affected by that. WoW too, but to a lesser extent, because essentially the 2 games will be very similar.

I agree 100%. I have a feeling WAR will fare far better than AoC, considering the legacy of DAoC and fan expectations of equal, if not superior, RvR experiences. Though there are aspects of AoC that I am still enjoying (my hopes were never high), I have very high hopes for WAR and think it will deliver (crossing fingers and toes).
