Se7en Days Left

By looking how Funcom handle AoC, I started to think back on SWG and how SOE f***ed that great game.

So are Funcom doing a SOE?

Populations seems to fall and the last Patch is not the best.

P.s - I'm not trying to Troll, I'm just asking. And no I will not go back to WoW. So don't tell me that. And no, you will not have my stuff.

Played and enjoyed:
EQ2,DAOC,GW,WOW

I dont think AOC can be compared to Pre-cu and Post-cu SWG at all

Funcom has been primarily improving their game since release

I dont think you can compare AoC to SWG because AoC had some serious issues even in the way beginning.

AoC is improving though, but the question is if AoC can improve enough before WAR deals the final blow

God made women because mens brains are broken.

AoC is more like Vanguard.   The difference is, Vangaurd had tons more content when it launched.   It may not have run good for some people, but it was a far better game at this point of its life than AoC is.   As I have mentioned I managed to stick around in Vanguard for a year...I lasted one free month in AoC.

I enjoyed SWG for several months after release and only quit because of guild drama. The game was fantastic in the beginning though they had early release problems. AoC I quit after 2 weeks and quit for several reasons, mainly boredom and the feeling of incompleteness. I never ever felt SWG was boring or incomplete.

Two completely different feelings from each game, I don't think you can compare them.

Based on the state of AoC at release I can only think of 1 or 2 other games that gave the same feeling. Anarchy Online, or maybe Vanguard.

No Funcom pulled a Funcom.  Although AoC had a far better launch, Funcom obviously didn't learn much from AO.  Funcom deserves every bit of hate and discontent for releasing a half-baked game.

Having said that, both SOE and Funcom are capable of making fine MMOs.  Almost every title has Potential(tm), but SOE and Funcom either get too trigger happy with releases or go off on some wierd tangent later on when said title isn't doing so well.  Not to say that other studios are innocent, but hopefully the days of crappy releases are behind us.

Imo, you don't need to release a game with small detail.  Instead release a game in a solid state with the primary features in place and provide a roadmap for the upcoming year.  Most of us gamers have patience to wait on features, but gone are the days when we'll accept a borked game.

NO this is not called an SOE.  An SOE would be if Funcom took the combat of AOC that most of us have come to love and turned it into Click-Fest style (AKA DIablo).  An SOE would be if they straight up deleted the Necromancer class.  An SOE would be if they....

I'm just thinking of all the things they did to SWG and converting it...there's far many more

Very true, something small... like oh, stats for instance. You know, stats have worked in games since graphics were in ASCII. I agree with someone else too that its a half-baked game and really it is a good comparison to Vanguard, although granted I believe AoC > VG at releases. At least leveling was fairly fun. So who knows, maybe in a month or two the game will really be great, but by then the population may have been hit way too much.
