Once you hit around the top level in Alchemy you are given a choice to take Potions, Elixirs or Transmutations, but only one of them the quests say.

Right now at 375 /375 which is the top level in Alchemy I can make all three of the above .

1.  If you choose to go one of the 3 routes offered can you still make the other 2?

2.  What's the incentive of taking one of the 3? What does it offer taking one of the 3? Why not stay the way you are now?

I haven't chosen any of the 3 but if I did I would probably go the Elixir route as this has been my main source of income. BUt potions are needed for healing and mana which is also important.

Thanks for any help.

I come here
because I care.

The profession "mastery" for alchemy doesn't give a special unique item for that mastery only like the other professions do. For alchemists, your mastery just gives you an opportunity to get more potions for less mats.

Basically, the mastery you choose allows you to "proc" bonus items from whatever you were crafting from that category. For elixir masters, you have a chance to proc on any elixir or flask, for potion masters, you have a chance to proc on any potion, etc etc.

Just do what you're already doing and choose whichever one you use the most. You won't lose out on any items, as all alchemist patterns are still available to you, you just won't get a proc on anything that doesn't fall under the category you chose.

You have the potential to make more money with transmute mastery. But I'd just choose whichever you make the most of...

Current:
Played: EVE, Lineage II, SWG (Pre CU), CoH, EQ2, WoW.
Waiting for: Stargate Worlds

This is my plan once my warlock reaches 70.  Most of my guild mates bought their flying epic mounts from transmuting.  I'll likely switch to elixirs once I've made my gold.

have played:lotro,WoW,eve online,EQ,runescape.

waiting on:WoW Wotlk and
Warhammer Online.

When you obtain the mastery, you can do 2 potions/elixir/transmute instead

of one,and ''discoveries '' too like potions that you will never get

by other player, example: potions of restoration etc,..it play by a small

chance of discoveries about 1% :)

by the way im Elixir master.

But wth?

I went to check out the one who gives you the mastery of elixirs which is my main source of income. But this guy is asking for a lot, a whole lot. He wants me to go to the caverns of time and obtain 10 essences of something plus he wants 5 elixirs of major defense, 5 of major agility and 5 of mastery.  these are all top level elixirs he wants.

Already it's lopsized. I make it a habit never to do any quest where I have to pay gold or anything for XP or reputation. I work to make gold not give it away.

I don't recall seeing the same type request for transmuation or potions. I know, I'm cheap as hell.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

The essences are not that difficult to get, and you'll get free elixirs coming out your ears when you finish the quest. I know it seems backwards to pay money for such a thing, but it's well worth it in the end.

Ex wow players never die, they just come to MMORPG.com to bitch

My alchemist isn't that high. But this is what I understand from having read the forums.

Transmutation is generally rated as the weakest of the three options. The long cooldowns on transmutes means that you can't transmute very often, and even when you do a transmute, the chance of getting anything from your specialisation is very small.

Elixir mastery is often a good choice, since elixirs sell well and are very useful in the endgame. This is a good default option to take.

Potion mastery is also a reasonable option, particularly if you chain drink mana potions. If your guild already has an elixir master, consider taking potion mastery.
