I sure can. With the latest "happenings" the noose is slowly tightening for Darkfall Online. With Tasos claiming all kinds of shit like working for MSN gaming zone to Darkfall having 150 FPS with 200 players on screen to showing up to a gaming meeting and showing year old video. Not to mention no word on the comprehensive video promised over a month ago.

Comments trolls are the bane of most sites; where as the vast majority of people may never comment on a post those that do usually fall into one of three categories. Legitimate commenters, who have something thoughtful to say and/ or add to the conversation (for and against), link spammers who comment on the off chance they might get some traffic as a consequence of their comment (sometimes these fall into the first category..hard to tell) and trolls, who make it their business to criticize anything written and the people who wrote it, in some sort of sad attempt at self validation by being nasty towards others for the sake of it. Like taking drugs, trolling is a poor mistress that demands more and more to feed the self satisfying addiction that props up their self esteem. |

I almost feel guilty, I feel like I’m participating in killing something I love, but perhaps its already been dead for a long time, in that case I’m just helping to notify the undertaker. If it really is alive and kicking then I’m happy to be proven wrong. We have to remember though that there are still a substantial proportion of the community here, on the official boards and else where that dismiss everything we say or don’t accept it at all, so for them at least anything we say is still considered of little or no significance. I keep thinking maybe Tasos will release that comprehensive game play video today after all it is update Friday, and everything I’ve said is wrong and this game definitely is feature complete and will start public beta soon and will successfully release sometime this year but it just seems increasingly unlikely at this stage in my opinion. |

I think you also forgot to mention a large portion of trolls are found hiding under bridges -- laptops at the ready -- scouring for unwary posters that may pass by. **CAUTION to all who cross |

I think you misunderstand a few things. Not everyone dismisses everything you post, but the difference is that there are some things that you believe are substantial evidence DarkFall will not release, whereas some of the same things can be judged as proving the exact opposite. The problem with the community is that everyone is tired of waiting. Understandable, the games been pushed back for a very long time. But theres still hope there, and until we see Adventurine has gone out of business, or the games been scrapped, sold, or abandoned theres still a good chance this game will actually release. |

Well he just posted his thoughts. I cant see anything wrong with that myself. His thoughts are based on something that has allegedly happened too. Of course we all just sit in front of our computers and occasionally log into this website and read other peoples posts. Everyone is still pretty much in the dark about Darkfall and the latest developments do actually make the its future appear even darker. Either way no-one knows for sure at the moment and like religion we can chat about it until the cows come home but we still wont really be any the wiser. Its all just harmless banter though so no harm done. |

I'm certainly not. Of course there are probably a few sad people who are but who cares about them anyway? Its not as though Adventurine OWES people anything. They havent signed a contract with the online community so its not their problem if sad people with no lives are getting upset over a single game. If the game comes out then great. If it doesnt then oh well. There isnt anything that any of the "consumers" can do about it so who cares? |

I think that the truth is about to be revealed. Either by a big delay or (most propably) by cancellation. The joke has gone too far, and the initial investment money must be over now. Moving to greece was a good choice. Money lasts longer in Greece than in Norway. But all good things have to end. They can not just keep pretending to be developing a game forever. |

In my opinion this game’s development will never end until they decided to release it, sell it or cancel its development. Aventurine and Darkfall are owned by members of the development and production team. And the investors and financers of Aventurine and Darkfall are the developers and producers that own it. They all maintain careers, jobs and other business activities outside development of Darkfall to support themselves financially and the project. Most of them work part time on Darkfall, and many have only been involved directly for periods of time between other commitments, or are no longer directly or actively involved. This project can go on indefinitely, just as it has done since they created Aventurine and moved to Greece, after the money from the only actual investor we know of ran out. After 8 years of development of various kinds nobody really knows how much of what they have promised they have actually accomplished, perhaps they are nearly finished, perhaps not.

Same as EVE Online and Pirates of the Burning Sea, so what?
Stop making stuff up. *Some*, like Henning do, which is also normal in the industry. You have no information about what the 30+ devs do.
Again, stop making stuff up. |

And the only way the developers and producers would have the money to invest in Aventurine to become partners or owners.

Here’s some more proof that indeed some or perhaps many of the Developers and producers of Darkfall work outside the project to support themselves financially presumably whilst also contributing to Darkfall's developement.

A “technical consultant” based in India, It's unlikely he's working on Darkfall full time if he lives in India and is a consultant, he’s probebly only working for Aventurine and Darkfall part time, probably only when his consultation is required. Private Technical consultant at Aventurine

Being a developer involved in a project at a successful/serious/professional development studio is full time employment, and more than full time during crunch time. Contrary to what you may believe professional games are not developed working part time or as a hobby between jobs. In fact, one of the traditionally discussed problems in the industry is how time intensive and demanding jobs can be. This is reason behind the existence of websites and organizations like the ea_spouse blog (ea-spouse.livejournal.com/ ) or IDGA (www.igda.org/), though I can tell you they unfortunately haven't been very successful. It baffles me you'd state this as normal without knowing what you're talking about. Other than that I agree that stating all or most of the staff is only working part time while having second (first) jobs is merely conjecture. We have good reason to believe some do, but no evidence about the rest of them. No evidence on the contrary either, though. So it's just conjecture. |

Let me copy and paste the info here so others can see. 150 FPS is not uncommon for a game like this since he said it is under normal loads and on an average machine which does not mean a hyped up super PC running everything maxed. Normal load battles are around 50-100 players on screen or about. On average 30-60 FPS, you left that out of your post TROLL.
Things are going well with the game testing and with the publishing activities. There are no serious problems to speak of, and we’re on schedule with our milestones.
I see the community has already discovered a couple of news items so I'll briefly comment on them: |
