Great design idea.

Instance an area that has been asked about for years, instead of making it an adventure planet like it rightfully should be.

Typical SOE garbage, learning from prior mistakes has never been there strong suit.

Wow another cookie cutter answer from a unhappy person.

These instances are NOT the same thing different skin as you would lead people to think.

Same skin or not, its a piss poor, lazy way of implementing Hoth into the game.

Are you actually trying to defend making it an instance as opposed to a Planet? this is content that has been requested for YEARS, and they have chosen to half-ass it like everything else, instead of giving the players what they have asked for.

They claim to be listening to the customers, then make decisions like this? hello contradictory statement # 1,344,934.

There was no cookie cutter answer given, and I am a current subscriber/pre-cu veteran who is not happy with this implementation, seeing as the majority dislikes this as well, it would seem you are the one with the cookie cutter answer.

Actually that's exactly what they are. Same instances, different skins. Yawn...

It's just cruel, though, for them to do it to Hoth...something the players have been asking for (as an actual planet) since the game launched. It's too bad that SOE *still* hasn't learned to listen to their players.

Today you have a choice to be happy or sad, positive or negative.

Actually (and don't confuse me with a naysayer), I don't think that the current development team has the resources to create an entire new planet.  Think about it; when the NGE was released, many developers were hired part time in order to "throw it together" so to speak.  I'm not sure SWG has ever had a large permanent development core, but rather, SOE hires temporary employees when releasing expansions.

If they made Hoth a planet, it would be an expansion.  If they made another expansion, they'd hire more temporary developers with no long-term investment in the game.  I'm all for content, and the new devs certainly are delivering small to medium doses of it and fixing up bugs, but if we ever get Hoth, I don't want it to be some thrown together expansion by an apathetic crew.

Assuming the longevity of SWG, I could see another expansion pack after a graphical upgrade along the line.  I know SWG is notorious for having a preoccupied art team, but I think fixing some issues the game has now along with smaller patches of content is a better idea than embarking on a grand expansion pack.  It allows the team to fix issues as they come up, and solve some longstanding ones.  They don't have to abandon general gameplay improvement to devote all efforts toward an expansion pack.

SWG has attempted advanced development without first fixing bugs and issues before; letting the development team take on smaller content goals and thus have work time for other gameplay issues (such as the weaponsmith system) is working out great.

Simply put, SWG has a history of bad things happening when "big" things happen.  I'm not ruling out the possibility for expansions, I'd just perfer that the health of the overall game be considered first.  Without the content rush on, things get done.

I think the one thing everyone can agree on with regards to Hoth is that it's been asked for as an addition from very early on in the games life, right up and through the NGE. Pre-cu vets, CU vets, NGE'ers have all asked for Hoth and they've all asked for it to be the first fully functional PvP battleground. Now whether it turns out to be the best pve experience in the history of mmo gaming (yeah I know, the thought gave me a giggle too) or not the point is the fanbase, the paying customers through 3 different iterations of this game have all asked for the same thing and SOE yet again have proved that they either don't listen or don't care what their paying customers want..........yet again, and despite claiming to have learned lessons from past mistakes.

I agree.

But not just because of a PvP battleground, but rather for the new areas of exploration. If I remember correctly the results I've seen from some Bartle tests (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartle_Test) showed that exploration was the number one player attribute. Having an instanced area to explore might be ok for a little while, but I think having an entirely new world to explore would be much more conducive to any MMO community - particularily SWG.
